Description of WorkAdvise current and prospective students in one or more majors in the College of Arts and Sciences on academic program planning in person through drop-ins and appointments, and by phone and email. Participate in recruitment and retention efforts, including New Student Enrollment. Encourage overall well-being and adjustment to the University as well as exploration of interests as they relate to majors and careers. Minimum Required QualificationsBachelor's degree plus two (2) years demonstrated experience working with students in 1:1 or group advising settings; Master's degree may substitute for two (2) years of experience. Experience must demonstrate an ability to learn and stay current on complex academic requirements, policies, and procedures. Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations in order to apply inclusive advising strategies. Must have excellent interpersonal, communication, organization, and time management skills. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work in a collaborative, team environment. Must have computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, email/internet.
Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree preferred. Experience with college/ university level students. Experience with academic and/or social support for first generation, low-income and/or minority college students. Background in liberal arts and sciences desirable. Understanding of student records, admissions, retention and graduation requirements. Ability to develop and deliver programs and presentations. Experience using advising software programs and/or student information systems.
