Be part of this optimistic, innovative team where outstanding customer service creates dynamic solutions and engages leadership at every level.Under general supervision provides professional work of moderate difficulty in the area of counseling/treatment in the Coconino County Detention Center Substance Abuse Treatment Program, performs other duties as assigned.Typical Duties(Illustrative Only)
  • Performs initial intake and evaluation of participants
  • Facilitates and prepares for group/individual sessions
  • Creates and maintains individual and group therapy files
  • Facilitates adherence to core curriculum
  • Assesses and monitors progress of inmate/s throughout program
  • Provides and coordinates discharge planning with Case Worker and Detention Center staff
  • May help develop new policies and procedures as needed
Essential functions of this position include sitting; working with and around others; working with frequent interruptions; vision acuity (near); hearing and speech for ordinary conversation and conducting sessions; touch for computer work and documentation to therapy files.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in field of work and one year experience; OR any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Must be registered with the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Services as a licensed Substance Abuse Counselor or obtain licensing within the first year of employment with the Sheriff's Office. Must successfully pass a background investigation and polygraph test. Must not have a felony conviction within previous ten years or dishonorable discharge from the military. Must not have a misdemeanor conviction involving domestic violence within previous five years. Must not have used marijuana within twelve months of hire or dangerous or narcotic drugs in the past five years for more than experimentation.This position is exempt from overtime.This position is safety sensitive.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Considerable knowledge of:
- Principles and practices and techniques involved in providing professional counseling Psychotherapy, group and individual casework
- Applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations, codes and ordinances
- Current Evidence Based Best Practices and concepts of Substance Abuse Treatment
- Community service organizations and agencies
  • Skill in:
- Interviewing techniques, intervention strategies, and after care services
- Working with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds
- Computers and software to prepare reports
  • Ability to:
- Evaluate and document inmate progress toward treatment goals
- Work well with a team, as well as independently
- Provide group treatment and individual counseling using Matrix Model
