The Regulatory Engineer will support design engineering, manufacturing, and sales through application of materials science in materials selection, problem solving, process improvement and evaluation of products for product environmental compliance regulations. The Regulatory Engineer will be responsible for covering all aspects of materials regulatory compliance for new and existing products requiring compliance to RoHS, REACH, POP, TSCA, and other global materials regulatory requirements.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Evaluation of bills of materials to determine compliance of products with environmental regulations
  • Communication with suppliers on compliance of their products with environmental regulations
  • Collaborating and communicating with various Kollmorgen internal design and manufacturing teams to select materials and processes
  • Developing and maintaining documentation for materials and processes
  • Working with the Kollmorgen Purchasing Team and third-party companies to ensure Kollmorgen products meet performance and compliance requirements.
  • Perform and document testing according to applicable standards.
  • Working with the Kollmorgen IT Team to store and maintain compliance documentation.
  • Creating and championing internal policies related to materials compliance.
  • Evaluation of products for customer specific applications
  • Other duties as assigned.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited university in:
  • Chemistry
  • Materials Science and Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Another major where the curriculum covers materials testing and chemistry.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • ·Experience with materials testing to evaluate material performance to technical data sheets.
  • Experience with compliance and/or regulatory affairs and working with national certification and notified bodies.
  • Working knowledge of RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU (RoHS2), REACH (REGULATION (EC) No 1907/2006), ECHA and other compliance regulations
  • Well organized with effective communication skills
  • Ability to take complex regulations and relay explicit criteria to Kollmorgen Management and Design Teams
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Comfortable writing technical reports and advising other engineers on materials science and regulatory issues.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NECESSARY:
  • Knowledge of chemistry and compounds used in electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Intermediate computer skills including word processing, database and spreadsheet use.
  • Ability to use inspection tools and gauges.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and capable of completing tasks without supervision and within time limits.
  • Requires a very high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work-related hazards may include working with chemicals.
