
Associate General Counsel, In-House Attorney

- Oversee the negotiation, drafting, and execution of contracts with suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders related to residential solar energy projects.
- Manage risk by advising on the structure of business development projects and form business program agreements.
- Litigation and Dispute Resolution:
- Oversee and manage litigation matters, disputes, and claims involving the company, working with external counsel when necessary.
- Develop strategies for dispute resolution, including negotiation, mediation, or settlement.
- Risk Management:
- Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with the company's operations and projects.
- Develop internal policies and procedures to protect the company from legal and financial exposure.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Act as the primary liaison between the company and its external legal advisors, investors, and regulatory bodies.
- Represent the company in industry forums and regulatory proceedings.
- Education/Certification:
- J.D from an accredited U.S. law school
- A license to practice law from a U.S. state
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3+ years of legal experience
- Experience in the residential solar industry or renewables is ideal but not required.
- Backgrounds in transactional law, litigation, intellectual property, consumer finance, securities, and other areas of the law applicable to publicly traded, consumer-focused, renewable energy company.
- Skills:
- Strong communication skills, good judgement, and common sense.
- Complete legal and business research projects and other tasks quickly and thoroughly.
- Effectively manage outside counsel.
- In-depth understanding of solar energy market dynamics, federal and state regulations, and the energy industry's legal environment.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with experience leading and mentoring legal teams.
- Strong business acumen, able to advise on strategic decisions from a legal perspective.
- Experience working in a high-growth solar energy or renewable energy company.
- Prior in-house experience is ideal.
- Capable of working across a wide variety of legal practice areas and with many non-lawyers across SunPower's various business units.
- Familiarity with tax incentives, government subsidies, and policy-related issues affecting solar energy.
- High ethical standards and integrity, with a strong focus on compliance and corporate responsibility.
- Ability to balance legal risks with business objectives, providing sound advice in a fast-paced, evolving industry.
- Proactive, solution-oriented, and able to navigate complex legal challenges.
