A leading company in the transportation and storage industry is seeking an experienced Human Resources Generalist to support and enhance human resources operations across the organization. This role is ideal for a proactive, knowledgeable HR professional with a background in benefits administration, employment law compliance, and employee engagement.In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with the CEO, CFO, and Owner to manage the full cycle of HR functions, including payroll, recruitment, onboarding, benefits, leaves of absence, and performance management. You’ll play a key part in fostering a positive work environment, supporting policy compliance, and ensuring accurate recordkeeping.Location: Houston, TX
Salary: $70,000-$80,000 + Discretionary Bonus
Type of Position: Direct HireKey Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all core HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, benefits, leaves of absence, workers’ compensation, and performance management.
  • Process multi-state payroll for hourly and salaried employees
  • Partner with operations to determine hiring needs, utilize recruiting resources, and ensure job descriptions are accurate and current.
  • Screen applicants, assist in coordinating interviews, and prepare offer letters.
  • Organize onboarding logistics, including new hire packets, office tours, personnel file setup, and system entries.
  • Ensure completion of pre-employment screening and background checks, and facilitate new hire training.
  • Manage employee benefits, including enrollments, terminations, open enrollment, vacation accruals, and premium updates.
  • Address employee questions about benefits, work with management to evaluate costs, and ensure accurate administration of all PTO and non-PTO time.
  • Handle FMLA processes, create appropriate documentation, and manage any overlap with workers’ compensation.
  • Support workers’ compensation procedures, including form completion, documentation submission, and timely coordination of post-accident drug screenings.
  • Champion the employee performance appraisal system across departments.
  • Maintain employee handbooks, HR policies, and personnel files in compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Respond to employee questions and concerns, manage time-off requests, and support payroll implementation as needed.
Requirements:
  • Highest level of confidentiality and discretion
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of HR experience
  • Strong knowledge of policies and procedures, including drafting, updating, and revising
  • Experience administering benefits and working with HR systems; Experience with Paychex required
  • Strong understanding of HR practices and employment laws, multi-state experience would be preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction
  • Comfortable interacting with employees at all levels of the organization
  • High attention to detail and follow-through
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, tech-savvy, and computer literacy required
