- Develop policies and procedures applicable to Outpatient Services/PACU in conjunction with the Surgical Services Director and Chief Clinical Officer.
- Make recommendations to Surgical Services Director for future development of the department and its facilities and equipment.
- Establish work schedules for all OP/PACU employees. Make changes in the schedule as necessary for illness and emergencies. Alert Surgical Services Director to staff shortages or anticipated changes in staffing levels.
- Ensure employee hours are correct in Time & Attendance system; correct missed punches and edit time as needed.
- Assist staff with incident, accident and med error reporting, as necessary. Assist Surgical Services Director with follow up of incidents.
- Supervise staff in documenting medications and nursing care in electronic medical record. Assure that nursing documentation in medical record is complete and accurate.
- Supervise PATT nurse and assist in verification of chart prep and workflow prior to scheduled procedures.
- Supervise OR Schedulers to include verification of proper scheduling of procedures. Assure that patients are scheduled in the correct status and that paperwork is complete.
- Oversee daily staffing assignments and provide lunch relief for staff.
- Assist in the hiring process of qualified personnel for the OP/PACU Department. Participate in and assist with interviewing of applicants and make recommendations for employment.
- Assure that new employees receive adequate orientation, competency training, and maintain certifications related to OP/PACU.
- Participate in the evaluation performance of the OP/PACU employees at intervals specified in the personnel policy, or as necessary. Assist in determining employee's professional goals and recommend ways to attain them. Take action in situations requiring disciplinary action.
- Assist OP/PACU staff with keeping equipment clean and in good repair.
- Collaborate with OR Clinical Supervisor to ensure procedures are scheduled and conducted appropriately.
- Perform job duties of OP/PACU Staff Nurse as outlined in job description.
- Perform job duties of OR Scheduling tech as outlined in job description.
- Function as Relief Surgical Services Director as needed, in collaboration with OR Clinical Supervisor.
- Ensure inventory is maintained per set PAR levels. Collaborate with Surgical Services Materials Specialist to change PAR levels as needed.
- Verify daily department tasks, monthly outdates and survey compliance checks are completed.
- Assure that all rooms are kept clean, stocked and ready for use in OP/PACU.
- Work with Surgical Services Director in developing a yearly budget, as requested.
- Attend and participate in meetings, classes, committees, or workshops as requested by Surgical Services Director or Chief Clinical Officer.
- Participate in community activities designed to promote CRH and community health and education, with approval of Surgical Services Director and/or Chief Clinical Officer.
- Take responsibility for keeping own knowledge and skills up to date. Participate in in-service programs as both student and teacher. Attend workshops as possible and apply knowledge, as applicable, to nursing practice.
- Assess education needs of OP/PACU staff and assist in planning, organizing and promoting programs to meet those needs, in collaboration with the Surgical Services Director.
- Other duties as assigned by Surgical Services Director.
