Assistant General Manager Job Duties and ExpectationsWe're looking for a problem-solver and big-picture thinker with a scrappy, can-do attitude to help lead our busiest restaurants. Ian's Pizza isn't your typical cookie-cutter spot-we do things our own way. We're looking for an Assistant General Manager who's eager to learn our culture, contribute their own experience, and bring fresh ideas to the table.As the AGM, you will work closely with the GM to ensure successful operations in all departments (FOH, Kitchen, and Delivery) and a positive work culture that aligns with our Vision, Values, and Big Five Code of Conduct. Success is measured in customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction, and profitability.You'll start your training at one of our Madison restaurants, spending about 10 weeks learning general operations and about 13 weeks learning management skills. Then you will transfer to your restaurant location (100 State St) to start in your role as AGM. During your training, you will learn various store management operations, including how to properly train general staff and Shift Leaders, conduct staff reviews, place product orders and manage inventory, maintain successful vendor relationships, facilitate Open Book Finance practices with staff, update and communicate staffing needs and challenges to the recruitment department, develop and manage the 2-4 week staff schedule per company standards, and develop and implement new systems or processes to improve overall store performance.Assistant General Manager Skills and Experience Requirements
  • 2+ years of AGM or GM experience in the food and beverage industry is required. (If you have Shift Leadership or Shift Management experience, check out a Department Management or Shift Leader role with us!)
  • Quick Service Restaurant, or fast casual dining, experience is a plus.

  • Able to motivate others to always put in their best effort, and hold all staff accountable to high standards of food quality, customer service, and cleanliness.

  • Able to keep organized, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Must be Food Manager (ServSafe or Learn2Serve) Certified OR able to complete the certification in the first 6 months of employment.
  • Must be Safe Alcohol Server Training (ServSafe or Learn2Serve) Certified OR able to complete the certification in the first 6 months of employment.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods. To bend, crouch, and lift up to 50 lbs. To use ovens, pizza cutters, and other equipment of the business.
  • Ability to use or learn to use administrative tools such as Google Calendar, Gmail, Google Sheets, etc.
  • English language proficiency is required. Bilingual in Spanish is a major plus!
  • Reliable transportation to and from the restaurant locations for a variety of shift times, including mornings, afternoons, and nights.

.Assistant General Manager ScheduleAssistant General Managers are salaried for 40 hours a week. Any time worked over 40 hours is considered overtime and is paid as such. Each week, you will spend about 20-30 hours in operations/on-shift and about 15-20 hours on administration, projects, and meetings. Your operational work and meeting schedules are posted 2-4 weeks in advance.Ian's Pizza on State is open Sunday-Tuesday 11am-10pm, Wednesday-Thursday 11am-2am, and Friday-Saturday 11am-2:30am. Opening operational shifts typically start 1-2 hours before opening, and closing operational shifts typically end 1-2 hours after closing.Our restaurants are most busy on evenings and weekends, so availability for these shifts is required.
