Job RequirementsPOSITION SUMMARYThe Supervisor, Laboratory Medicine provides daily supervisory oversight of the assignedlaboratory department, and is accountable to all its functions, processes, regulatoryrequirements, and operations. Supports Health First’s Manager, Laboratory Medicine &Pathology on execution of Health First’s Mission and Vision. Provides frontline leadership ofdaily lab operations to assigned department.PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITES1. Supervises daily operations of the laboratory, consistent with the mission & vision ofHealth First Inc. The general supervisor is assigned to one or more of the followinglaboratory departments: general core lab, microbiology, blood bank.2. Supporting the laboratory manager, and HF lab leadership team, accountable to allaccreditation agencies ensuring the laboratory’s successful compliance with itsregulatory requirements (CAP, TJC, FL State, AABB, OSHA, etc.)3. Maintains a safe work environment for laboratory staff, as outlined by variousaccreditation agencies.4. Organizes and oversees departmental work schedule. Ensures 24/7 coverage of thedepartment.5. Oversees daily quality control operations and aligns department with HF laboratory’s QAprogram.6. Solicits feedback from front line staff, consistently implements process improvementchanges based on feedback received.7. Develops collaborative relationships with inter-professional departments and ongoingpartnership with other supervisors and other members of Health First leadership team toensure organization’s goals are achieved.8. Demonstrates strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interactproductively and effectively with associates, leaders, clinicians, staff, and customers.9. Shows commitment to culture “Continuous Quality Improvement” through incorporationof evidenced based laboratory medicine, benchmarking, and implementation ofrecommended guidelines.10. Supervises resources allotted to assigned laboratory department.11. Serves and performs all functions of a CLIA general supervisor for the laboratory in allsections of responsibility.12. Engages laboratory associates with constant and proactive communication ofdepartmental goals, wins, ongoing projects, and changes within the Health FirstLaboratory via staff meetings, huddles, emails, rounding and other forms ofcommunication.LEADERSHIP ACCOUNTABILITIES1. Contribute to and support the strategic direction, and demonstrate financial acumen, forareas of responsibility and organization.Work ExperienceMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Medical/Clinical Lab Science, or any related
field, as outlined by CLIA.
  • Work Experience: Five (5) years clinical laboratory experience.
  • Licensure: Medical Technologist by the State of Florida and in accordance with CLIA.
  • Certification: None
  • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
o Strong time management skills.o Proficient in human relations and interpersonal communication.o Effective organizational communication skills.o Skilled in troubleshooting and problem-solving.o Competent in computer skills and technology use.o Knowledgeable in quality assurance and quality control procedures.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: Master’s Degree (MS, MBA, MHA, MPH or equivalent).
  • Work Experience: Prior experience supervising hospital laboratories, experience in
outpatient laboratory operations.
  • Licensure: Lab Supervisors license by the State of Florida, Medical Technologist or
Medical Laboratory Scientist by ASCP.
  • Certification: MLS(ASCP) also formerly known as MT(ASCP), and/or MT(AAB),
MT/MLS(AMT), Specialist Certification by ASCP (SBB, SC, SH, etc.).PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Able to endure
8-hour workday in periods of high demand
  • Pass color blindness test, visual acuity, and manual dexterity to perform clinical/technical
tasks.
  • The majority of time involves sitting or standing; occasional walking, bending, stooping
  • Long periods of computer time or at workstation
  • Light work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds with or without
assistance.
  • May be exposed to inside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting
and/or low to moderate noise
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks
  • Workspace may vary from open to confined, on site or remote
  • May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require
