Job RequirementsPOSITION SUMMARYThe Director of Hospital Laboratory Medicine and Pathology is responsible for providing operational leadership and oversight for Holmes Regional Medical Center (HRMC) and providing testing oversight to the Health First Integrated Delivery Network (IDN) assigned laboratories which may include Cape Canaveral Hospital (CCH), Viera Hospital (VH), and Palm Bay Hospital (PBH). The Director of Hospital Laboratory Medicine and Pathology ensures the laboratory and diagnostic services meet the needs of the organization and the community while supporting and aligning with the organization’s mission and strategic objectives. The Director leads and manages resources for laboratory medicine & pathology and other modalities within the department, reporting directly to System Director of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology, while working closely with the System Vice President, Chief Operating Officer of HRMC and Hospital Division.PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITES * Directs and manages the operations of laboratories, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and strategic goals, while enhancing the integrated healthcare delivery network across multiple facilities.
  • Oversees the provision of patient-centered laboratory services that are consistent with Health First’s mission and vision, ensuring that high-quality, compassionate care is delivered across all service lines.
  • Leads the development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and documentation to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements (CAP, TJC, FL State, AABB, OSHA, etc.), and oversee continuous quality improvement initiatives within the department.
  • Ensures that all laboratory environments are safe, compliant with safety standards, and conducive to maintaining the well-being of staff and patients.
  • Builds and cultivates relationships with key IDN stakeholders, including other department leaders, medical staff, and support teams, to ensure the seamless coordination of services and alignment with Health First’s overall goals.
  • Champions a culture of continuous quality improvement, incorporating evidence-based practices, benchmarking, and national guidelines to ensure the highest standards of laboratory medicine are met.
  • Provides oversight for the fiscal management of laboratory services, including budget development, resource allocation, and cost-control measures. Work closely with executive leadership on capital requests and operational budgeting.
  • Collaborates with the System Director of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology and other senior leadership to develop and execute short, intermediate, and long-term strategic plans for the laboratory service line, identifying opportunities for growth, service enhancement, and operational efficiency.
  • Delivers strategic leadership and mentorship to the laboratory management team, ensuring that staff development, performance management, and succession planning align with departmental and organizational goals.
  • Establishes and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess departmental performance, holding the team accountable for achieving high standards of operational and clinical excellence.

Work ExperienceMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Lab Science, or any relevant biological sciences field.
  • Master’s degree in Healthcare or Business Administration (MHA/MBA), Public Health (MPH) or a relevant field.
  • Work Experience: Three (3) years’ progressive leadership experience in laboratory, within a full-service tertiary care hospital.
  • Licensure: Medical Technologist licensure in the State of Florida.
  • Certification: Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP);
  • Formerly known as MT(ASCP), MT(AAB), MT(AMT).
  • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
  • Strong skills in management, human relations, organizational, communication, complex problem solving.
  • Must be able to function in a highly stressful environment.
  • Responsible for positive leadership abilities in problem-solving situations.
  • Able to make independent decisions, interpret regulatory guidelines.
  • Guides and assists to develop and implement new procedures.
  • Ability to deal with multiple problems at the same time and made independent decisions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Work Experience: Five (5) years of experience directing hospital laboratories, experience in directing outpatient laboratory operations.
  • Licensure: Laboratory Supervisor licensure in the State of Florida.
  • Certification: Specialist certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) in Chemistry, Blood Bank, Hematology, Microbiology, etc.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Majority of time involves sitting or standing; occasional walking, bending, and stooping.
  • Long periods of computer time or at workstation.
  • ight work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds with or without assistance.
  • May be exposed to inside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting and/or low to moderate noise.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
  • Workspace may vary from open to confined.
  • May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
