
Development Services Inspector – Mechanical

- Conduct field inspections of mechanical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings to ensure compliance with the Michigan Mechanical Code, local ordinances, and other applicable safety regulations.
- Review permit applications and approved mechanical plans to ensure systems and installations are in compliance before conducting inspections.
- Inspect mechanical equipment, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) systems, refrigeration systems, ductwork, piping, and related components.
- Identify code violations, unsafe conditions, and substandard installations during inspections and issue corrective action notices where necessary.
- Document inspection results, including writing detailed reports, taking photographs, and tracking corrective actions taken by contractors to ensure code compliance.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to contractors, building owners, and homeowners on mechanical code requirements and safe installation practices.
- Respond to inquiries and complaints from the public regarding mechanical system issues and code enforcement.
- Stay current with changes to mechanical codes, building codes, and industry standards. through continuing education and professional development.
- Work closely with other city departments, agencies, and external stakeholders to ensure the safety and integrity of mechanical systems in the community.
- Assist in the development of policies, procedures, and guidelines related to mechanical inspections and code enforcement.
- Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Interprets and explains City codes and regulations.
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- Currently hold a mechanical license from the State of Michigan in three of the four categories and have for at least one year: (i) Hydronic heating and cooling and process piping, (ii) HVAC equipment, (iii)Refrigeration, (iv) Fire suppression.
- Must complete CEU’s for maintenance of Licenses and Certifications
- Act 407 (formerly Act 54) registration or (within 30 days of hire, must make application for ACT 407 registration to the State of Michigan)
- Currently registered with the State of Michigan as a Mechanical Inspector and Mechanical Plan Reviewer
- Two (2) years Mechanical inspection and Mechanical plan review experience
- Currently hold a mechanical license from the State of Michigan in three of the four categories and have for at least one year: (i) Hydronic heating and cooling and process piping, (ii) HVAC equipment, (iii)Refrigeration, (iv) Fire suppression.
