- Designs and develops manufacturing processes for products, taking into consideration problems inherent in the transfer of technology from research to manufacturing.
- Such design and development may include new or revised processes. Develops procedures for the economical mass production in cooperation with pilot-plant and production departments.
- Conducts tests and measurements throughout stages of production to determine control over applicable variables; and services, troubleshoots and solves production process problems with processes or equipment already in operation.
- Reviews field support requirements and recommends tools and test equipment. Determines maintenance and repair materials required for deployment.
- May make recommendations concerning acquisition and use of new technological equipment and materials.
- Provides guidance for engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
- Analyzes designs and provides feedback and suggested changes for component layouts.
- Consulted for the quality of new designs relative to compatibility to the intended manufacturing processes.
- Supports and/or facilitates MT&BP (Manufacturing Transition & Build Plan), DTC+ (Design to Cost Plus), Producibility Tenets.
- Supports activities involving variability reduction to identify and mitigate process and product risk (DFMEA, PFMEA, etc.).
- Works autonomously with limited oversight from manager.
- Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.
- Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
- U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required
- Exposure to ERP systems, SAP preferred.
- Experience with the practical application of Lean/Six Sigma and Design for Manufacturing tools and concepts.
- Experience utilizing APQP tools / principles.
- Experience driving improvement utilizing lean principles and Design for Manufacturing tools and concepts.
- Experience with Engineering programs, such as, Computer Aided Design (CAD), Additive Manufacturing, 3D printing, and Solidworks.
- Experience with government and regulatory body requirements, such as, FAA, FDA, DOE, DoD, etc.
- Be on a career break of one or more year at time of application
