This position will sit in a Clean Room environment and partner closely with the Supervisors and Production teams.Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develops production schedules which focus on optimizing raw material costs, purchased components costs, on-time delivery of Shop Orders, finished goods inventory levels, and supplier performance, etc. This effort is coordinated with other supporting departments.
  • Conducts daily reviews of production schedule making appropriate adjustments to optimize production and customer service
  • Interacts with customer service and sales representatives as necessary to evaluate the ability to expedite production in order to meet customer requests
  • Analyzes the requirements of raw materials and components, including specifications, preferred supplier, and date material is needed to support the production schedule
  • Solicits and evaluates proposals for the requested material or services
  • Maintains effective and proper relations with suppliers and their representatives
  • Investigates and/or interviews potential suppliers to determine if they meet the specified requirements
  • Assists team members or management on selecting the appropriate supplier to be used based upon value-cost analysis for material or services
  • Negotiates the lowest possible cost for the material or services balanced against the optimum quality and schedule needs
  • Assures that the material is delivered on schedule, at the negotiated price, and meets the quality standards of the company
  • Maintains timely control of purchase orders, and other documents to assure accurate retention of records
  • Additionally, provide back-up support for the Materials Manager when required
  • Help define and execute the short and long-term strategy for Continuous Improvement initiatives
  • NBS standardization and best practice sharing across Nordson (Advocate for NBS Next)
  • Provide total ownership of On Time Delivery for the planned selection of parts owned in this role
  • In the cleanroom, on the floor -- helping prioritize packagers at end of month and for OTD
  • Manage inventory better -- aware of components we are short on, plan for that with orders/prioritize runs on IMMs when necessary to hit OTD for assembly
  • Create run plans for assembly -- primarily on assembly lines (e.g., CA30X, XQ) and stopcocks (for bottoms) -- and proactively communicate to supervisor team
  • Create planned shop orders that reflect inventory quantities (e.g., one lot per component on stopcocks, two lots per component on other assemblies)
  • Understand Kanban for assemblies and work with operators to schedule bottoms
  • Understand shop order operations/how to view open shop orders to understand where we are at in the process
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree with 1 to 2 years of buyer/planner experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. High School diploma with 5 to 6 years of buyer/planner experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in use of typical desktop hardware and software (i.e. Dell/Compaq, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Demonstrated advanced Microsoft Word and Excel skills capable of meeting the productivity requirements of the position
  • Proficiency working with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as, work instructions, procedures
  • Experience working in a Lean production system
  • Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence. Must also have the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Good analytical skills. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to apply and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
Preferred Skills and Abilities
  • APICS Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP)
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and understand the application of geometric tolerances
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
Working Conditions and Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee is frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment where the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions and where the by-products of machining of metal components and plastic injected parts exists (i.e. coolants, plastic dust, noise up to 80 db, etc.). The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. On occasion employee may need to reposition or lift parts of molds. Also, may assist in lifting or repositioning processing equipment.
