
Sr Combat Systems Engineer

- Concept Design
- Work collaboratively with the Naval Design group to develop Combat Systems through development of design, arrangements, and integration all the way through specification development and bid support
- Develop and support relationships with vendors in support of these efforts
- Research Activities
- Working closely with the University/Research Institute Project Manager to support activities in research
- Cultivate and support relationships with Gov't Entities (such as ONR, DARPA, etc.), Universities and Research Partners in the area of C5ISR and Combat Systems
- Special Projects with Current Classes
- Support ship classes (LCS, MMSC and FFG) in any related studies
- Responsible for developing and managing a group of engineers and designers to support the Combat Systems efforts of the Naval Design group
- Planning and scheduling work associated with these efforts
- Build relationships and coordinate with research partners, including universities and labs
- Identify opportunities to attain externally funded research in the area of expertise
- Proposal development support for ship designs, R&D, etc., in support of business development efforts and customer requests
- Requires frequent travel to support the shipyard teams, research partners such as labs and universities etc.
- Work closely with the Advanced Naval Systems Technical Leader/Team (responsible for the payload of the ship), as well as the core engineering teams at FMM, FAM, FBS
- Past experience successfully leading engineering teams
- Experience with concept and functional ship design
- Experience in a research and development environment
- Must have a working knowledge of standard shipbuilding rules and regulations, as well as the associated regulatory agencies and the review & approval process.
- Must have current computer skills relevant to the field of competence
- Must have ability to work within schedule and budget restraints
- Ability to approach challenging problems with creative solutions
- Must have the ability to maintain a professional demeanor
- Must have effective written and verbal communication skills
- Must have ability to maintain confidentiality.

- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, 8 years of experience of increasing responsibility in the engineering field of competence.
- Marine and shipbuilding experience is required.
