Job Description:This position will be in located Port Lions, AK.The Wellness Activity Coordinator is located in their home village and is responsible for planning and executing physical activities (i.e. group walks, basketball games, group fitness classes, etc.) that are relevant and meaningful for their village community, roughly 4-6 hours per week. This position encourages all members of our village communities to exercise in ways that are exciting and relevant to them. The Wellness Activity Coordinator will promote and participate in Rehabilitation Services programs and department activities, and other department activities as assigned.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.   • Develops and executes group fitness activities (to include group walks, berry picking, hikes, group fitness classes or similar) for village residents. Coordinates with Wellness Center staff to utilize online and virtual tools to enhance programming and allow remote/distance delivery to increase access and participant engagement as needed, including facilitating virtual personal training sessions as needed.
  • Applies evidence-based approaches to improving mobility, flexibility, strength, stability, agility, and power as appropriate for each participant.
  • Maintains record of weekly participant attendance, and modifies classes and activities as needed for varying ability levels.
  • Provides feedback to the Wellness Center Manager on relevant programming and supports for their village.
  • Travels as needed to Kodiak for Wellness Center trainings.
  • Collaborates with KANA Communications to advertise classes to improve class attendance.
  • Maintains group fitness instructor certification by complying with continuing education and training requirements.
Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no supervisory responsibilitiesRequirements:High school diploma or equivalent and an interest in group fitness and/or physical activity.Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsCurrent Group Fitness Instructor Certification (ISSA, NSCA, NASM, AFAA, ACE) required. Candidates who are not certified will be required to complete a group fitness instructor certification within 90 days of hire, with KANA to provide and pay for the training. Current CPR and First Aid certificate. Candidates who are not certified must complete training within 30 days of hire.
