Statement of Primary PurposeThe Health Sciences Academic Advisor/Tutor Liaison provides comprehensive and holistic academic advising, career guidance, and learning support to Student Support Services (SSS) participants in Health Science programs. This position fosters student success by addressing academic, personal, and professional development needs; helping participants clarify goals; and connecting them with tutoring, enrichment opportunities, and campus resources. By coordinating service-learning and cultural programming, and promoting persistence, retention, and graduation, the role directly supports the mission and objectives of the SSS program.This is a grant-funded position and employment is contingent upon the continued availability of grant funding.ClassificationProfessional, Full-time, ExemptEssential Functions and Responsibilities· Provide proactive, intensive, and holistic advising for SSS Health Science participants.· Connect students with appropriate campus and community resources to support academic, personal, and career goals.· Work closely with Health Science program coordinators, clinical coordinators, and the Health Science Success Coach to ensure students' academic progress.· Develop and implement Individual Academic Success Plans tailored to each participant's goals and needs.· Assist students in completing the FAFSA, applying for scholarships, and building basic financial literacy skills.· Continuously monitor academic progress, identify barriers, and evaluate student success through regular meetings and reviews.· Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and confidential student records documenting progress and outcomes.· Teach ACA 111 College Student Success each fall and spring semester.· Track and document all SSS activities using the Blumen database.· Collaborate with the LAC Tutor Program Coordinator to ensure accuracy in reporting, tracking students receiving tutoring progression, and securing tutors for programs/courses who may not be readily accessible or available for SSS students.· Prepare and submit monthly, semester, and annual tutor reports and budgets.· Attend all Health Science Division meetings and actively contribute to discussions and initiatives.· Work collaboratively with the SSS team to achieve program objectives and meet grant requirements.· Plan, coordinate, and promote SSS service learning and cultural enrichment activities to enhance student engagement and success.Additional Duties and Responsibilities· Attend workshops, conferences, and training as required.· Attend health science program pinning ceremonies, academic awards ceremonies, and graduation.· Serve on appointed Southwestern Community College Committees.Minimum QualificationsEducationBachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred (Preferably in education, business, communications, social work, or related field)—two years of experience in advising or counseling students.Knowledge and Skills· Minimum of two years' experience in college advising, success coaching, or a related field.· Ability to collaborate with individuals of all socio-economic, cultural, and diverse backgrounds.· Ability to be a team player, an analytical person, to follow complex directions, to be a multi-tasker, and to have a demonstrated ability to work independently with good judgment in decision-making.· Knowledge of the financial aid process, available funding, and scholarship opportunitiesPhysical DemandsMostly indoor activities, some cultural enrichment trips may require various physical demands.Licensing RequirementNC driver's licenseWorking Conditions and Environment· Typical campus office environment and hours.Equipment OperationStandard office equipment – phone, computer, scanner, and copier.This position description covers the most essential functions and duties associated with this position.
