The position consists of administrative, professional accounting, and supervisory responsibilities and will assist the Controller and Assistant Controller in the financial management and operation of the Controller's Office. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Preparing annual financial statements
  • Supervising of all processes and documentation required to timely and accurately complete and submit the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) to the Office of the State Controller.
  • Tracking and reporting Construction in Processes (CIPs)
  • Completing audited financial statements to the Office of the State Auditor (OSA)
About the Controller's Office and the Financial Reporting Section of DPS
The Controller's Office ensures that all department financial resources and funds are received, disbursed, recorded, and accounted for in accordance with all applicable State and Federal laws and regulations: generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Department policy and procedures. The Controller's Office at the agency level has oversight responsibility of this department and is accountable to the office of the State Controller for the integrity of that data.The Financial Reporting Section in the Controller's Office is responsible for the preparation of the Department's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and ensuring that the information is complete, accurate, and prepared in accordance with GAAP and timely submitted to the Office of State Controller. This section is responsible for the quarterly Sales and Use Tax Refund. This section is also responsible for several other functions, including preparing complex monthly reconciliations such as Fixed Assets, the Disbursing Accounts, and Construction In Progress (CIP) reconciliation.:The mission of DPS is to safeguard and preserve the lives and property of the people of North Carolina through prevention, protection, and preparation.   • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and experience applying this knowledge
  • Experience using a state accounting system(s), such as the North Carolina Financial System (NCFS) OR experience using another electronic accounting system(s)

See for details.Bachelor's degree in accounting, or a degree in business administration, finance or public administration or a related discipline from an appropriately accredited institution with 18 semester hours of accounting coursework; and five years of professional accounting experience in the preparation and review of interpretive or analytical accounting/financial statements and reports; of which at least one is supervisory;
