About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on, experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team in a hybrid capacity. The ideal candidate will have a strong background managing database systems in both on-premises and cloud (preferably AWS) environments. • Administer, monitor, and maintain both on-prem and cloud-based database systems (primarily AWS RDS and EC2-hosted databases)
  • Design, implement, and manage High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HADR) strategies
  • Automate regular maintenance tasks such as backups, patching, and monitoring
  • Proactively analyze performance and troubleshoot issues across platforms
  • Ensure data security, integrity, and compliance with internal and external standards
  • Collaborate with developers, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to support application and infrastructure needs
  • Participate in capacity planning and cost optimization for cloud database workloads
  • Document procedures, configurations, and best practices
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience as a DBA in production environments
  • Strong knowledge of AWS database services (e.g., RDS)
  • Experience managing HA/DR configurations
  • Proficiency in SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL
  • Comfortable wearing multiple hats in a lean IT or startup-like environment
  • Scripting and automation experience (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python)
  • Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in environments where the DBA was the primary or sole database expert
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines
  • Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Database – Specialty, Solutions Architect)
  • Exposure to data warehousing or analytics tools is a plus
Work Schedule
  • Hybrid: 2–3 days onsite at our NYC or Orlando office; remainder remote
  • Off-hours support for critical issues or maintenance windows
