
R&D Engineer II (MAPDL Material Modeling)

- Design, research, develop, and maintain advanced material constitutive models within the Ansys MAPDL finite element solver.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate complex physics and customer requirements into robust, scalable software solutions.
- Participate in technical discussions in projects involving material behavior such as plasticity, creep, damage, hyperelasticity, and viscoelasticity.
- Apply best practices in software engineering, performance optimization, and code quality.
- Investigate and resolve moderately complex bugs; work with QA and support teams to reproduce, diagnose, and fix customer-reported issues.
- Support long-term planning by researching new methods and understanding competitive landscapes
- Work under the guidance of a development manager while contributing independently to project goals.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, Aeronautical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, or a closely related field with 2 years of experience in developing material constitutive models, or MS.
- Strong foundation in computational mechanics and nonlinear finite element analysis.
- Proficient in Fortran and/or C/C++, Python, and modern software development tools.
- Demonstrated ability to write robust, efficient, and maintainable code.
- Familiarity with cloud environments and commercial simulation software practices.
- Ph.D. in Mechanical, Civil, Aeronautical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, or a closely related field with a focus on material constitutive modeling or solid mechanics.
- Deep expertise in material constitutive model theory and implementation in areas such as:
- Plasticity including multisurface and pressure-dependent yield surfaces
- Creep, visco-elasticity, and viscoplasticity
- Damage and failure modeling
- Finite strain material modeling
- Solid knowledge of finite element theory, element formulation, and nonlinear solver strategies.
- Understanding of numerical methods, solution stability, and algorithm development.
- Experience developing within a large-scale commercial software environment.
- Strong programming fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures, and performance optimization.
- Proven track record of successfully leading or contributing to technical projects, from design to delivery.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a distributed global team.
