- Perform day-to-day highway maintenance and repair, including asphalt, concrete, drainage, signs, guardrails, and vegetation.
- Operate and haul materials with trucks and highway equipment to support roadway and structure maintenance.
- Remove litter, debris, and hazards such as danger trees, dead animals, and unlawful dwellings from the roadway and right-of-way.
- Conduct snow and ice control operations, including plowing snow, loading, hauling, and spreading materials to maintain safe travel.
- Respond to emergencies by setting up traffic control, assisting with closures, and acting as a first responder at accidents or spills.
- Maintain and perform minor repairs on equipment, tools, and vehicles to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Document and report daily work activities while accounting for materials and inventory.
- Lead and train crew members in the absence of a Highway Maintenance Worker 3, assigning tasks and providing instruction.
- Highway Maintenance and Equipment Operation: Demonstrated ability to perform roadway and highway, farming, or construction maintenance tasks using a wide variety of tools and heavy equipment, including pavement repair, drainage system maintenance, vegetation control, snow and ice removal, and other skilled fieldwork.
- Commercial Driver's Licensing (CDL) Proficiency: Possesses a valid, unrestricted Class A CDL with “N” endorsement, no air brake restriction, and a valid Medical Card.
- Traffic Control and Safety Certification: Holds a Washington State Flagging Card and First Aid Certification, or ability to obtain within six months of employment.
- Respect and Equity: Demonstrates the ability to contribute to a work environment that fosters respect, inclusion, and equal opportunity for all.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and perform emergency callouts/stand-by 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Ability to transport, move, and manipulate various types of equipment weighing 50 pounds or more.
- Ability to respond to the assigned duty station within 45 minutes of an after-hours callout.
- Ability to traverse rough, steep, and uneven terrain and work at elevated heights, above 25 feet over land or water.
- Pesticide Application Certification: Holds a valid Washington State Pesticide Applicator's License.
- Educational Foundation: Demonstrates foundational knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma or GED.
- This recruitment may also be used to fill additional positions per business needs.

- These positions are full-time and non-permanent, expected to last up to one year.
- Duties involve physical tasks outdoors in various weather conditions, including high winds, both day and night, often near high-speed traffic. Responsibilities include manual labor, machinery operation, and working in confined spaces. There is exposure to hazardous materials, chemicals, and environmental conditions, including hot asphalt and potential waste hazards.
