- Lead highway maintenance crews by planning, scheduling, directing, and documenting daily operations.
- Operate a wide range of Class A, B, and C highway equipment to perform maintenance, repair, and transportation tasks.
- Perform roadway maintenance activities including pavement repair, drainage work, vegetation management, erosion control, sign and guardrail repair, and litter removal.
- Maintain safe travel by leading and performing snow and ice control, stockpile upkeep, and related winter operations.
- Respond to emergencies by coordinating and performing traffic control, incident response, spill cleanup, and road closures.
- Train crew members on equipment use, safety practices, highway maintenance procedures, and public relations.
- Maintain equipment, tools, facilities, and personal protective gear to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Support agency initiatives by assisting with unlawful dwelling cleanup, accident reporting, safety planning, and other duties as assigned.
- Highway Maintenance Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and direct highway maintenance crews in the safe and efficient completion of roadway activities. This includes planning, scheduling, coordinating personnel and equipment, documenting work activities, and ensuring compliance with safety standards and policies.
- Highway Maintenance Operations: Experience performing skilled roadway maintenance and repair activities. This includes operating equipment and tools, performing complex maintenance tasks, responding to emergencies and weather events, and ensuring work is completed to quality and safety standards.
- Commercial Vehicle Operation: Possesses the ability to operate vehicles requiring an unrestricted Class A CDL with N endorsement.
- Traffic Control and Safety: Holds a valid Traffic Control/Flagging card and has experience with traffic control according to MUTCD guidelines, including planning, setting signs, cones, or barrels, and flagging; or must obtain the card within six (6) months of hire.
- Pesticide Application: Holds a valid Washington State Pesticide Applicator's License or must obtain one within twelve (12) months of hire and demonstrate the ability to apply pesticides in accordance with Washington State requirements.
- Communication Skills: Communicates clearly and effectively with diverse audiences, both orally and in writing.
- Customer Service: Provides professional and respectful service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Independent Work and Prioritization: Manages workload effectively by working independently and prioritizing multiple assignments.
- Technology Proficiency: Uses Windows-based computers and software such as MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, SharePoint, Outlook) and cloud computing tools with proficiency.
- Respect and Equity: Demonstrates the ability to contribute to a work environment that fosters respect, inclusion, and equal opportunity for all.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and perform emergency callouts/stand-by 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Ability to transport, move, and manipulate various types of equipment weighing 50 pounds or more.
- Ability to respond to the assigned duty station within 60 minutes of an after-hours callout.
- Ability to traverse rough, steep, and uneven terrain and work at elevated heights, above 25 feet over land or water.
- Highway Maintenance Knowledge: Advanced understanding of highway and bridge maintenance activities.
- Equipment Operation: Demonstrated skill in operating and transporting highway maintenance equipment.
- Heavy Vehicle Operation: Demonstrated ability to safely operate vehicles weighing 26,000 GVW.
- Crew Leadership: Experienced in providing direction, guidance, and decision-making in leading or supervising crews.
- Equipment Knowledge: Understands the safe use and maintenance of TEF-owned equipment.
- Plan Reading: Demonstrates ability to interpret plans, drawings, and specifications and holds Plans Reading Certification.
- Educational Foundation: Demonstrates foundational knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.

- Duties involve physical tasks outdoors in various weather conditions, including high winds, both day and night, often near high-speed traffic. Responsibilities include manual labor, machinery operation, and working in confined spaces. There is exposure to hazardous materials, chemicals, and environmental conditions, including hot asphalt and potential waste hazards.
