
Controls Engineer I

- Using prescribed methods, performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced Engineer.
- Performs specific engineering tasks (under the guidance of a more senior Engineer) on existing product lines. Tasks may include:
- Preparing and designing wiring diagrams and electrical control circuits.
- Analyzing electrical circuits (primarily power, grounding and noise analysis).
- Loading software into machines and testing.
- Designing software using UML techniques.
- Writing and debugging PLC or other higher-language code.
- Developing required documentation to support machinery and manufacturing.
- Develops Engineering models and/or drawings (using company standards and tools) including Bills of Materials (BOMs). Ensures that documentation is clear, complete, accurate and compliant with appropriate company standards.
- Processes Engineering releases, change orders, change requests.
- Assists in developing test plans to validate equipment and/or component design. Performs tests, analyzes results, and prepares test reports.
- Provides production shop support and other Engineering-related tasks, as required.
- Performs machine quality inspections prior to machine shipments. Generates documentation to support quality compliance programs.
- Assists with machine installations and field troubleshooting, as required.
- Becomes familiar with all company safety standards.
- Performs all commitments/tasks in a timely and professional manner.
- Performs other duties/responsibilities as required.
- BS degree (EE, CE)
- Education requirements or BSET and three years of comparable experience in an OEM environment.
- In-depth knowledge of controls engineering and a broad working knowledge of mechanical engineering.
- Experience in the following software packages is required
- PLC and HMI platforms (Allen Bradley, Siemens and Visual Basic)
- Electrical schematic design software (ePLAN and PromisE)
- Higher Level Programming Language (VB.net, C++, etc.)
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Able to apply theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and current technology to create new software or to improve existing software.
- Able to apply standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjust and correlate data, recognize discrepancies in results, and follow operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes.
- Possesses good communication skills, a positive “get-it-done” attitude, and the ability to work as part of a team in a demanding production environment.
- Travel as needed.
- Sit at a desk or computer for extended periods of time.
- Move about the office and factory with occasional lifting, bending and reaching.
- Dial, hear and respond to telephone calls and inquiries.
- Communicate effectively (visually and verbally) with internal and external contacts.
- Meet requirements of daily attendance on job for a full, continuous work schedule.
