- Position Summary
- Full-time position available on or after September 15, 2025 for University Police.
- Job Duties
- Duties include but are not limited to:
- The proper execution of assigned duties.
- Respond to emergency calls.
- Enforce traffic and parking violations, and traffic control as needed.
- Complete general investigations.
- Prepare complete and accurate reports.
- Make arrests, serve warrants, and transport prisoners.
- Take necessary action within department policies and procedures to correct a situation.
- Take fingerprints and photographs.
- Make public safety presentations to the public, campus community, and department;
- Administer first aid and perform rescue work as needed.
- Maintain emergency public safety equipment.
- Actively engage in community immersion through interaction with student groups, clubs, community members, faculty and staff events and functions.
- Attend on-going training to keep current on new laws, methods of arrest, health and safety regulations, public safety regulations.
- Properly record and report information, including notification of a supervisor with any and all pertinent information.
- Prepare Safety and Security surveys.
- Promote Department morale.
- Provide guidance to Community Service Officers, Student Assistants, Student Escorts, and other department staff.
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
- Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a CSU or higher education setting.
- Two (2) or more years of recent experience working for a law enforcement agency.
- Experience working with the Michelle Montoya School Safety Act, Title IX, Clery Act or CSU Executive Order 1107.
- Prior experience working with the community, events or students.
- Experience utilizing computer devices, software, programs, and other modern law enforcement technology such as TriTech, Central Square, Clips, PeopleSoft.
- Prior experience with investigative techniques.
- Instructor Certification in range master, field training officer, defensive tactics instruction, bicycle patrol, or community relations programs.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Working knowledge of current laws, methods and procedures.
- Possess a valid California Driver's License.
- Working knowledge of current criminal codes and laws.
- Effective interpersonal skills to resolve a wide variety of sensitive situations.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including writing clear and comprehensive reports.
- Demonstrated ability to think and act effectively in emergency and sensitive situations
- Special Conditions
- The nature of the duties may also require successful completion of a background check, physical and psychological exam and/or the ability to attend Police Officers Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) programs related to public safety support and dispatch activities.
- Knowledge of and the ability to learn how to use the applicable public safety related equipment and systems are essential.
- Required to work various shifts throughout the year including: days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
- License or Certifications
- Eligible to be a peace officer in the State of California ( as per Government Code Sections 1029 and 1031).
- Possess a valid P.O.S.T. Certificate of Eligibility or a P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate in good standing.
- Valid California drivers license.

- Officers are required to walk and move around campus throughout all buildings and facilities and respond to calls for service and self-initiated activity, perform vehicle patrols, and some office work.
- May spend long periods of time sitting in a vehicle, riding a bike, or on foot.
- Required to work various shifts throughout the year including: evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
- Salary Range
- Anticipated salary will be $6,418 - $6,875 per month plus excellent paid benefits. Salary will depend on the qualifications of the successful finalist. (Full Police Officer range: $6,418 - $9,468 per month)
