- Performs mammographic procedures and examinations according to physician's orders and department policies and procedures.
- Evaluates digital images for technical quality to ensure accurate diagnosis.
- Knows daily mammographic quality control process (i.e. Printer QA, Digital QA, Mammography Unit QA, etc.)
- Consults with the radiologist to obtain correct protocol for each individual patient.
- Demonstrates/educates patients on Breast Self Examination.
- Exhibits skilled positioning techniques when needed in unusual situations.
- Calculates exposure factors to achieve the most accurate results.
- Correctly uses work list for accurate labeling of images.
- Assumes care for the physical and psychological needs of patients during examinations and procedures.
- Knows PACS system for retrieving prior images and ensures previous images are available.
- Knows how to print digital / ultrasound exams for film sign outs to other facilities (i.e. specimen film, etc).
- Conducts Timeouts according to policy for all biopsies and surgery procedures.
- Performs breast ultrasound procedures and examinations according to physician's orders and department policies and procedures.
- Assumes care for the physical and psychological needs of patients during sonographic examinations and procedures.
- Correlates the mammographic images with the ultrasound images.
- Cleans and maintains the ultrasound equipment monthly.
- Selects technical factors and evaluates results for technical quality.
- Enters accurate exam information into the Radiology information System.
- Ensures routine PMs are done.
- Operates all equipment (i.e. mammographic,, monitors, laser printer, etc.)
- Maintains an adequate supply of film for the laser printer to ensure proper operation and knows how to load film as well as the recycling procedure for the department.
- Notifies the supervisor of needed equipment repairs to ensure correct operation; documents equipment problems.
- Responsible for contacting the appropriate service engineer and documenting equipment problems when the supervisor is not available.
- Knows how/when to use Technical Support if needed (In-house, Selenia).
- Conducts Timeouts according to policy for all biopsies and surgery procedures.
- Results procedural information into the radiology computer system and knows how to cancel and reorder if needed.
- Charges patient for correct exams performed.
- Obtains accurate patient histories and documents in MRS.
- Verifies CAD documentation on reports in MRS.
- Correctly fills out Pathology/Lab slips.
- Knows the procedure for documenting, correcting and verifying PACS information.
- Follows the standard work flow in PACS.
- Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department
- Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned.
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.

- The knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of Some College or Vocational Training. ARRT (R)/Indiana State Board ARRT (M) is required. Up to 1 year experience is required. One year minimum as a staff Radiographer and one to two years experience in Mammography preferred. Must have valid 'General Certification' from Indiana State Board of Health.
- Proper patient mobilization is needed to obtain quality images.
- Accurately positions of patients and equipment for each view required for exams.
- Calculates correct exposure factors keeping patient dose to a minimum.
- Knowledge of contrast media and reactions and drugs necessary to counteract.
- Safely operates all Mammography/Diagnostic equipment, including computer system, and mammographic equipment.
- Practices aseptic technique.
- Adepts knowledge of human anatomy essential in the production of quality images for accurate diagnosis with special emphasis on breast imaging.

- Must be able to empathize with the mental/emotional stress of those patients having mammograms.
- Works in a hospital office and patient care environment.
- Frequent lifting, bending, stooping, walking, standing throughout the normal shift.
- May require an awkward or straining position for short periods of time in lifting or handling heavy objects.
