Civil Engineer I or Senior Civil Engineer - Engineering DivisionThe Village of Gurnee is seeking candidates for the position of Civil Engineer I or Senior Civil Engineer. The Village may hire for either position within the salary range presented depending on candidate qualifications and experience.Position Overview: responsible for preparing plans and cost estimates for roadway, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, water main, and other projects as necessary; provide construction management, inspection and field measurement/quantity take-off of on-going projects including the documentation and preparation of reports. This is a professional position responsible for the plan review of public and private projects and initiation, design, and supervision of construction of public improvements.Typical Responsibilities:Civil Engineer I
  • Assists in preparing engineering plans, drawings, and specifications
  • Perform basic design calculations under supervision
  • Support field inspection and collect project data
  • Assist in preparing cost estimates and technical reports
  • Coordinate with project team members and contractors
Senior Civil Engineer
  • Lead and manage civil engineering projects from concept to completion
  • Prepare and review engineering design, specifications and reports
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff
  • Oversee field inspections and resolve design or construction issues
  • Coordinate with clients, agencies, and stakeholders to ensure project success
Qualifications:Entry Level Civil Engineer I - at least 1 year of full time or combined internship experience performing civil engineering work tasks; State of Illinois Engineer Intern License or ability to obtain within 1 year; Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering / related curriculum; valid driver's license.Senior Civil Engineer - at least 3+ years' experience performing comparable civil engineering duties and job responsibilities; State of Illinois Professional Engineer or current progress towards PE required; Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering / related curriculum; valid driver's license.The qualifications listed above are guidelines. Other combinations of education and experience, which could provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job, may be considered.Salary Information:Entry Level Civil Engineer - anticipated hiring range $87,771 - $99,841, DOQ/E; salary range $87,771 - $113,593Experienced Senior Civil Engineer - salary range $114,090 - $135,443; hiring salary DOQ/EWork Schedule: Full-time position; 40 hours per week; general work schedule 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
