POSITION ANNOUNCEMENTCivil EngineerPublic Works - Engineering DivisionThe Village of Vernon Hills is seeking a candidate for the position of Civil Engineer, within the Engineering Division of the Vernon Hills Public Works Department.JOB SUMMARY: The Civil Engineer position is a full time position reporting to the Public Works Director. This position performs contract management of engineering projects as well as complex technical and skilled site development and on-site and off-site civil inspections in the field of public improvement and residential projects. Employee works independently in the field and is responsible for making decisions requiring technical discretion, sound judgment and familiarity with a variety of codes, ordinances and construction methods or problems. Work is performed in accordance with established engineering procedures under the general supervision of the Public Works Director/Village Engineer. The hours for the position are 7:00 am - 3:30 pm Monday through Friday.REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years minimum experience in public works construction, site development or related construction inspection.
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record.
  • Passage of a pre-employment physical, drug screen, criminal background check, motor vehicle history report, employment history verification and reference checks.
  • Successful completion of a twelve-month introductory period.
SALARY RANGE: This position falls under Grade 9 of the Vernon Hills Compensation Plan with a salary range of $94,743 - 127,904/annually.
