3 "must-have” skills or qualities in a candidate: Communication skills, print reading, failure mode investigationThis Contract position for a Supplier Quality Engineer will have responsibility for oversight and improvement of a selected sub-set of Beckman Coulter's component and sub-assembly suppliers. The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
o Coordinate and facilitate the resolution of problems involving the integration of suppliers' products and services into Beckman's manufacturing processes
o Investigate and analyze technical issues relating to quality, tooling and supplier manufacturing
o Provide technical consultation to internal and external suppliers for the selection of manufacturing processes
o Review validation reports and/or first article submissions for new supplied components
o Determine supplier performance targets and review supplier on-going manufacturing performance against set targets
o Assist in coordinating across technical disciplines within the organization, suppliers, joint venture partners and/or OEM partners
o Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action
o Develop and track project and action plans
o Monitor policies, procedures, and standards relating to Supplier Quality Engineering (i.e. metrics, data entry, log parts)
o Domestic travel to supplier sites to facilitate problem solving and perform on-site audits. Up to 25% travel.Required Experience:
o Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or Engineering Technology discipline
o 3+ years of relevant experience, primarily focused on the design, manufacturing, and quality of component parts
o Competent in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint at a minimum)Preferred Experiences and Qualities:
o Strong problem solving skills and familiarity with techniques such as 5 why's, 8D, pareto analysis, Design of Experiments, DMAIC, and others.
o Basic understanding of statistical tools and their application to manufacturing processes (ie, process capability studies, establishing process control limits, etc)
o 3+ years of experience working in an ISO regulated manufacturing facility
o Training and experience in the use of GD&T
o Understanding of measurement methods
o Experienced with Oracle
o Self-starter with a sense of urgency to resolve issues and complete projects
o Works well with others and is able to coordinate efforts with own and other departments
o Able to operate independently with limited oversight
