Description of Work UnitThe Office of the Registrar provides leadership and service in student enrollment and academic record management that supports recruitment, retention and graduation goals of Colorado State University. Position SummaryThe Curriculum and Catalog Manager is responsible for the immediate supervision of the Curriculum and Catalog staff in the Office of the Registrar. This individual will collaborate with the Associate Registrar of Curriculum, Catalog and Scheduling to ensure that curricular change proposals align with policies from CSU academic governance, the University Curriculum Committee (UCC), the Colorado Department of Higher Education (CDHE), and other relevant bodies. This position reviews curriculum proposals and provides consultation regarding content and format to academic faculty and staff, including college curriculum liaisons, advisors, department chairs, associate deans, deans and others during proposal development.This position is responsible for setting productivity goals and advancing the workload of the unit. In addition, this individual will provide management and direction for the CAT and CIM modules of the CourseLeaf system and share responsibility for publication of the General Catalog. The Curriculum and Catalog Manager is the second line of contact for problem resolution, working with challenging situations in a highly technical and policy-driven environment.The selected candidate must be comfortable leading a team and managing the demands of multiple and changing competing priorities. This individual must strive for excellence, accuracy and have a passion for solving problems in a team environment. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision.
Required Job Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a field that emphasizes analysis and critical thinking skills.
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible related experience working full-time in an institution of higher education.
  • Minimum of one year experience with curriculum interpretation or student advising.
  • Demonstrated experience solving complex problems.
  • Demonstrated experience prioritizing multiple simultaneous tasks while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and excellent written communication skills as demonstrated by application materials.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience working with administrative academic systems: preferably LeepFrog (CourseLeaf Catalog, Curriculum Management, and Class Scheduling Systems), CollegeSource products (uAchieve, Transferology, Transfer Evaluation System) and Ellucian Banner Student modules (such as registration, academic history, class scheduling, and catalog).
  • Demonstrated experience managing short-term operational goals.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills as demonstrated by respectful and effective interactions with various constituencies including but not limited to students, faculty, staff, and vendors at all levels.
  • Demonstrated experience communicating with institutional leadership and influencing departmental decisions.
  • Knowledge of, or experience with: Requirements collection and documentation, Business rules analysis, Modeling processes (use cases, activity diagrams, flow charts, swim-lane process diagrams, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience training large and small groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate process documentation.
Essential DutiesJob Duty Category Curriculum and Catalog Operations
Duty/Responsibility
  • In collaboration with professional staff in the unit, prioritize work and implement plans to manage high volume times and ensure work of the University Curriculum Committee, College Curriculum Committees, VPDUA and others are progressing appropriately through the curriculum process.
  • Collaborate with CourseLeaf Systems Specialist and Curriculum Liaison Specialist to ensure timely and accurate publication of the General Catalog.
  • Coordinate with team to identify problems with curriculum submissions, prioritize issues, and create action plan for proactively addressing why proposals are still in the pipeline.
  • Lead team in creating process documentation for each step of course and program review.
  • Analyze CIM course and program queue structures and provide recommendations for improving efficiency and accuracy in program review.
  • Ensure all curricular deadlines are met.
  • Perform in-depth analysis of all course and program proposals submitted to UCC for accuracy, content, and impact. This requires expertise in understanding how minor changes to a course or program can impact students' ability to complete the program and graduate on time, as well as determining the impact to other courses and programs across the university.
  • Communicate concerns with proposed changes to the department and provide options to resolve concerns.
  • Perform outreach to staff in departments through individual/group training and in-depth discussions over more complex issues.

  • Oversee daily operations and work assignments of professional and student Curriculum and Catalog staff.
  • Set productivity goals; intentionally advance the workload of the unit.
  • Hire, train, coach, and evaluate Curriculum and Catalog team of approximately four professional staff.
  • Develop and/or update training plans and provide on-going training. Assign tasks to team members based on priorities, job duties and abilities.
  • Ensure all procedure documentation is current and accurate.
  • Update position descriptions as required, create annual work plans, and complete semi-annual coaching and annual evaluations.

  • Serve on internal and external committees; serve as a source of reliable, comprehensive, and authoritative information about CAT and CIM and how they are configured for use at CSU.
  • Serve as a resource to work through complex inquiries.
  • Serve as liaison with the Academic Planning unit to provide back-up coverage and decision making authority on an as needed basis.
  • Work directly with the CourseLeaf vendor to identify and troubleshoot issues with CAT/CIM.
  • Perform outreach to staff in departments through individual/group training and in-depth discussions over more complex issues.
  • Write and publish user guides and documentation.
  • Provide support for new initiatives taken on by the university, division or department.
