
Staff Accountant

- Ensure accurate and timely processing of grant-related financial transactions.
- Monitor grant expenditures and ensure they align with approved budgets and grant agreements.
- Prepare journal entries as required.
- Analyze general ledger and reconcile balance sheet accounts.
- Review and approve accounts payable vouchers for assigned programs.
- Work with fiscal and program staff to address budgeting and reporting issues.
- Prepare and manage grant budgets in collaboration with program managers.
- Generate financial reports for grantors, ensuring accuracy and compliance with grant requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of periodic financial statements and grant-related financial reports.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to grant management.
- Prepare for and assist with audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Maintain comprehensive records of all grant-related financial activities.
- Work closely with program managers and other stakeholders to provide financial insights and support for grant-funded projects.
- Communicate effectively with grantors about financial status and compliance issues.
- Train and support staff on grant management policies and procedures.
- Prepare and submit budgets, invoices, schedules, and workpapers in accordance with the funder guidelines.
- Analyze financial data related to grants to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
- Develop and implement strategies for improving financial management and reporting processes.
- Stay updated on best practices and changes in grant accounting standards.
- Other tasks as assigned to meet agency goals and adherence to deadlines.
- Minimum of at least three years of accounting experience.
- Previous fiscal work experience with NYC, NYS, Federal, and private grants & contracts.
- Thorough knowledge of GAAP.
- Experience preparing the NYS SSOP, NYS CFR, or Uniform Guidance (formerly A-133) reports.
- Prior experience contributing to funder and agency audits.
- Advanced experience using Microsoft Excel and Word, accounting systems, and other common workplace software.
- Experience with NetSuite is highly desirable.
- Able to provide insightful analysis of complex fiscal scenarios in a timely manner.
- Detail-oriented, with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Previous fiscal work experience with NYC, NYS, Federal, and private grants & contracts.
