DescriptionThe Department of Transportation and Public Works has an opening for a Building Systems Master Mechanic at their office in Clayton, Missouri. The qualified candidate will perform skilled journeyman level work in assigned facility and lead workers providing mechanical and maintenance work in all facilities outside normal business hours on an on call basis.Leading workers providing mechanical and maintenance work outside normal business hours on an on call basis distinguishes this job class from L622-Building Systems Specialist. The typical starting salary is between $24.83 - $29.80 / hour depending on the candidate's qualifications and experience as well as budgetary considerations. For more information regarding this program, please visit:Examples of DutiesEssential Function ExamplesProvide mechanical and maintenance support and repair and lead workers in all County facilities including nights, weekends, and holidays on an on-call basis.Perform Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), electrical and/or plumbing maintenance, repair or installation work.Perform welding and sheet metal fabrication repair and maintenance.Provide on the job training for lower level employees and review work for accuracy.Marginal Function ExamplesMonitor and obtain supplies and equipment to ensure the availability of inventory for a designated work area.Remove snow and ice.Serve as backup for site or project foreman duties.Perform other duties as required or assigned.This document defines the job class as a whole and provides examples of work that may typically be performed by the assigned positions. It does not represent any single position.Minimum QualificationsEquivalent to completion of technical school, plus five years of building systems maintenance experience.Possession of a current, valid Driver's License.Possession of a Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification (MAC or ASE).Some positions require asbestos worker certification.Additional InformationSELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory.
