
Lead Engineer - Mechatronics - Aerospace Research

- Lead and/or participate on multidisciplinary teams of GE Aerospace Research colleagues, GE Aerospace Services team members, and external partners to invent, shape, and mature new technology for confined space access, inspection, and repair
- Execute the design, analysis, system integration, testing and maturation of novel mechanisms that may include sensors, end effectors, controllers, and actuation
- Develop and mature design or analysis tools for advanced mechanisms or mechatronic systems
- Provide expert consultation to help resolve technical challenges across the organization

- Contribute to the development and maintenance of technology roadmaps
- Work with other support functions and/or external suppliers to meet project deliverables
- Prepare and participate in project and technical reviews
- Lead the development and writing of internal and external proposals
- Build an external network of collaborators in academia, government, and industry
- Patent inventions and develop a record of publication via conferences and peer reviewed journals
- Experience in developing novel mechanisms, including electro-mechanical systems, actuators, and/or sensors and end effectors
- Proficiency in using 3D solid modeling software (e.g., NX, SOLIDWORKS, Creo) and prototyping
- Analytical experience, including structural/thermal finite element analysis with ANSYS
- Experience in simulation of kinematics and dynamics of mechanisms and electromechanical systems
- Results-oriented execution mindset with a sense of urgency
- Ability to work under pressure and meet aggressive deadlines
- Ability to work across all functions/levels as part of a team and to interface with senior leaders and customers with clarity and confidence
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a global team environment
- Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY

- Experience developing confined space access tools and mechanisms
- Testing experience of electromechanical components and systems, data acquisition (DAQ, LabVIEW), and design validation
- Familiarity with Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques, such as ultrasonic testing, eddy current, FPI, camera optics, X-ray and others
- Familiarity with engineering with diverse engineering materials including plastics, elastomers, composites and metals
- Familiarity with surface engineering and repair processes such as material removal techniques, coating application and cleaning
- Familiarity with electrical circuit design and troubleshooting
- Familiarity with principles of product development, reliability and quality control
- Experience developing technical ideas with internal/external customers and a track record of converting ideas to programs
- Direct knowledge of aerospace power and propulsion applications
