At District One Bridge Maintenance, operates specialized equipment that may include but not limited to: boom truck, hydraulically operated bridge scaffold, pile hammers, vibratory hammers, tractor trailer 5th wheel combination (varying manual transmissions and trailer styles), etc. for use in the removal, construction, and maintenance of bridges in District one. Maintains certifications and medical examinations as required per ASME B30.5 safety standards. Performs skilled bridge maintenance worker functions and operates heavy equipment to include but not limited to: backhoe, excavators, etc. Worker functions require knowledge in various types of construction equipment hauled to and from work sites. Performs crane rigging and signaling duties to ensure loads moved by crane are safe and properly secured. Requires crane rigging and signaling qualification. Assists in performing various bridge repairs including but not limited to: concrete spall repair, bridge joint repairs, pile repair, bridge rail repair, etc. This requires the use of common power tools i.e. drills and saws. With limited supervision constructs wood forms and other misc. carpentry projects. Performs welds with arc and mig welding machines and operates oxygen/acetylene cutting torches for maintenance and construction work. Assists and trains in the operation of levels, laser levels, grade rods, etc. in the layout of construction and maintenance projects. Maintains construction and maintenance records for piles and survey. Requires the ability to calculate pile bearing with limited supervision. Two (2) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
