
Principal Packaging Engineer

- Lead the development of new packaging designs for Refrigeration products with a focus on Quality performance and architecture
- Optimize new packaging designs for performance, cost, and damage mitigation
- Design packaging compatible with squeeze clamp handling
- Resolve technical issues through failure analysis and corrective action, including documentation and tracking in GE Appliances’ Failure Reporting and Corrective Action System
- Provide technical leadership as required with specific focus on quality craftsmanship, design for manufacturing and assembly, product approval testing including UL, toxicity and RoHS, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), Sustainability and speed to market
- Conduct and support program and design reviews in accordance with the latest New Product Introduction (NPI)/Running Change requirements
- Coach and guide Packaging team members
- Prioritize and escalate issues using risk assessment tools and P&A tracking
- Maintain parts tracker and Bill of Material (BOM) for packaging projects, and ensure Model-Based Definition (MBD) models are accurate, released on schedule, and are GE Appliance Dimensioning System (ADS) compliant
- Coordinate with Sourcing and Supplier Quality on supplier selection, tool/equipment design, and part qualification to optimize for cost and quality
- Review and understand product damage to develop effective mitigation plans. This includes an in-depth understanding of Damage data and analysis tools.
- Develop scopes, schedules, build, and evaluation plans as required for successful project execution
- Develop and improve Engineering Test Procedures (ETPs), Design Guides and Design Practices
- Document development process through use of Lean PDP
- Coordinate project pre-production builds and field trials with a cross-functional team
- Understand relevant Intellectual Property (IP) landscape, lead IP clearance efforts, and contribute to GE Appliances’ patent portfolio
- Own and maintain design documentation for all concepts, prototypes, and production configurations
- B.S. degree in Packaging, equivalent technical degree or B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Self-starting leader with 10 or more years of engineering experience
- Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills
- Experience with a Manufacturing environment and demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally
- Understanding of Clamp-handling processes for product movement through distribution systems
- Willingness to travel up to 10% to ensure program success and ability to hold off work hour conference calls with global suppliers
- Working knowledge of GD&T and dimensional control and analysis principles including 3D scanning and DVA
- Proven ability to define, drive, and implement new products and design changes Advanced computer skills - high proficiency in Microsoft Office, PTC and ability to grasp new systems quickly
- Strong analytical/problem solving skills with demonstrated ability to scope and analyze problems to generate and implement solutions
- Ability to travel domestically up to 10%
- Proficiency in ArtiosCAD products
- Prior Packaging Design experience
