- Review and approve applications for NYSED program approval in the health sciences areas;
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to school district/BOCES applicants for health sciences programs;
- Serve as NYSED Liaison to the NYS Department of Health regarding curriculum and policy for state operational approvals to operate Nurse Aide Training Programs and Home Health Aide Training Programs;
- Serve as communications liaison between the NYS Department of Health (DOH) vendor for state Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification testing, and school programs;
- Recruit and train new Registered Nurse (RN) site evaluators; revise and maintain a system of approval tracking and notification;
- Maintain data on operationally approved programs and licensed personnel in the Home Care Worker Registry;
- Provide on-going leadership in sustaining a statewide professional development model that supports all learners and enhances CTE programs in New York State;
- Serve as liaison to State and national organizations related to career and technical education policy initiatives and practices;
- Offer technical assistance to school personnel and other stakeholders, including the development and delivery of training materials to build teachers' content knowledge and pedagogy in CTE;
- Implement Perkins grant administration activities, including State Plan development; technical assistance to the field; yearly risk assessments and monitoring plans; application and budget reviews; and on-site program reviews;
- Collaborate with internal offices, external CTE organizations, and NYSED contractors on CTE guidance and training projects;
- Research and prepare professional development materials, grants, contracts, proposed regulatory and policy statements, Board of Regents items, and informational materials; and
- Complete other duties, as directed, to foster statewide equity in access and quality of CTE programs.
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:
- Master's degree AND New York State permanent or professional CTE Certification in one of the following areas: K-12 Agriculture Education, K-12 Business Education, K-12 Computer Science Education, K-12 Family and Consumer Sciences Education, K-12 Technology Education, 7-12 CTE Certification in Human Services, or 7-12 CTE Certification in the Health Sciences Education field AND four years of full-time classroom teaching experience in the corresponding subject area.
- Preference may be given to candidates who have a New York State permanent or professional CTE Certification in Health Sciences 7-12 in one of the following subject areas: Medical Assisting 7-12, Physical Therapy Aid 7-12, Emergency Medical Services 7-12, Sterile Processing 7-12, Practical Nursing 7-12, Ophthalmic Dispensing 7-12, Medical Laboratory Technology 7-12, Pharmacy Assisting 7-12, Dental Laboratory Technology 7-12, or Nurse's Assisting 7-12 AND four years of full-time classroom teaching experience in the corresponding subject area.
