Responsible for assisting the Commercial and Residential Container Coordinator to organize and maintain the Solid Waste refuse container inventory for the City of Bryan.
Essential Job Functions
  • Assists with the repair and maintenance of damaged/broken containers and/or accessories with the manufacturer.
  • Responsible for delivery of containers to new customers and repair/replacement of damaged containers.
  • Responsible for maintaining operational records of containers by location, size, make, and use.
  • Prepares written reports, gathers data, and uses a computer network to log work completed.
  • Operates side load and front-end loaders trucks.
  • Follows and completes designated collection route as scheduled.
  • Assists in equipment maintenance, cleaning, and fueling; performs minor repairs and reports the need for significant repairs.
  • At times, will be required to serve as a backup operator to a crew picking up garbage along a designated collection route.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Responds regularly and promptly to work.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least three (3) years of work experience, preferably involving driving a large vehicle and/or heavy equipment.
Equivalent combinations of education, experience, certification, and training may be considered.

  • Comply with all City and department administrative directives, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrate satisfactory work performance and the initiative to broaden skills and take on new responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate regular, reliable, and punctual attendance and utilize leave responsibly to ensure sufficient coverage of departmental operations.
  • Provide management with sound, positive advice, and information concerning the incumbent's area of responsibility.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work and communicate effectively with the public and other required entities.
Licenses, Certifications & Special RequirementsRequires a Texas Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a good driving record as measured by the City's evaluation system. CDL must be maintained during employment.
Physical DemandsPhysical demands include but are not limited to: sitting, talking, hearing, seeing, standing, walking, driving, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, crawling, climbing, and using hands and fingers to operate equipment and to lift or move objects up to 50 pounds, or more with the use of proper equipment.
Working ConditionsWork is primarily performed in an outdoor field environment or a large sanitation truck. There is exposure to traffic hazards, inclement weather, temperature extremes, dust, pollen, odors, fumes, electrical shock, moving mechanical parts, loud noises, vibration, hazardous materials, and pathogenic substances through the operation of equipment and handling of waste/refuse.
EquipmentWork shall be performed with tools, appliances, and equipment approved by those agencies and bodies that have control, authority, or approval of the design working ranges or limitations of those items; the employee has the responsibility to conform to those ranges and limitations.Equipment may include but is not limited to: phone, truck (city vehicle or side/front/rear-loaders, grapple trucks, haul trucks, etc.), street sweeper, chippers, two-way radios, shovels, rakes, brooms, power/hand tools, computers/laptops, and various office equipment.
