
Fixed Equipment Reliability Engineer

- Provides technical support for pressure vessel, boiler and piping design, fabrication testing and inspection, including repair and alteration strategies per industry, site-specific, and MPC-specific requirements. This includes ASME Section I Boilers, Section VIII Pressure Vessels and B31.1/B31.3 Piping design & fabrication, Bolted Joints, and Pressure Relief Valves.
- Develops and initiates focused reliability-improvement programs that highlight bad actors, identifies long-term investment needs for the area teams, and solves systemic problems which are proactive approaches in preventing costly production losses and in ensuring the maximum life of fixed equipment.
- Performs Life Cycle Cost Analyses (LCCAs) to support budget forecasting
- Reviews and specifies permanent and temporary repairs, calculation of renewal thicknesses and the assessment of remaining life for fixed equipment assets.
- Provides site subject matter expertise in fixed equipment repairs and alterations and Relief Valve Inspection/Testing per all applicable MPC standards, NBIC standards, and site specific “VR” Stamp programs.
- Works with Reliability, Inspection, Operations, and Maintenance to evaluate equipment damage mechanisms and recommends corrective actions and/or potential projects to ensure continued equipment Mechanical Integrity.
- Leads, performs, or reviews Fitness for Service (FFS) evaluations based on MPC, site, and industry codes including, but not limited to, API 510, API 570, and API 653 in addition API 579.
- Participates in turnaround scope development process to ensure turnarounds achieve fixed equipment reliability improvement goals.
- Works collaboratively with Engineering, Maintenance, and Project Teams to support fixed equipment, relief devices, piping, piping components, valves, refractory, etc. are purchased and/or installed from vendors, suppliers, and contractors as required by MPC specifications and standards.
- Supports the technical ownership of all-site technical documentations and specifications related to fixed equipment asses, relief valves, piping, bolting, repairs/alterations, pressure relief systems and pressure/leak testing. This includes interfacing with Corporate SMEs as appropriate to ensure corporate specifications and standards are aligned against site-specific standards.
- Serves as the site subject matter expert and liaison with regards to the State of Washington Boilers and Unfired Pressure Vessel Laws (Chapter 70.79 RCM and Chapter 296-104 WAC).
- Represents the site as a member of MPC’s Fixed Equipment Reliability Engineering Group (FEREAG)
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in the refining/petrochemical industry or other related heavy industry, with 5 years’ experience in fixed and/or pressure equipment.
- Experience in applying ASME, NBIC, API 510, API 570, API 653, and other applicable codes and standards in the design, evaluation, repair/alterations of fixed equipment.
- Experience performing and/or reviewing API 579 Fitness for Service assessments for fixed equipment.
- Experience maintaining Bolted Flanged Joint programs, including the development of tightening procedures and specifications for outages or for in-service activities.
- Experience with GE Digital’s Asset Performance Management (APM) and/or SAP.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Professional Engineering Licensure in the State of Washington.
