Overview:Cardiovascular sonographer (echocardiographer/ vascular sonographer) independently performs a variety of diagnostic cardiovascular ultrasound procedures. This position is multimodality with the intermediate to advanced knowledge of both cardiac and vascular anatomy, physiology, and disease states. All examinations are performed within standard protocols defined in the lab. The sonographer performs examinations in both inpatient hospital settings and outpatient clinic setting. Cardiovascular images are digitally acquired, and measurements obtained per protocols. Sonographer ensures patient safety through use of procedure protocols and policies. Continues to advance and evolve their technical knowledge in their field, intermediate skill level pursuing more advance skills and procedures.
Clinical and technical expert in the field who demonstrates increasing level of excellence through clinical practice, teaching/mentoring abilities, and leadership qualities. Mentors other technologists.Type of Opportunity: Per Diem

(This differential may be adjusted or discontinued based on business requirements.)Responsibilities:Performs routine echocardiograms independently for evaluation of heart defects or diseaseLearns and progresses toward independence in performing stress and Dobutamine stress echocardiogramsApplies knowledge of cardiac anatomy, pathophysiology, and ultrasound principlesUses independent judgment to determine need for additional imaging or bubble studiesDemonstrates clinical knowledge and judgment to manage patients during examsDevelops critical thinking to recognize, analyze, and resolve problems during examsCompletes charges for exams in EHR and initiates preliminary reports in PACSSubmits studies for IAC case review with mentor guidanceStays current through seminars, workshops, and publicationsParticipates in monthly rotational on-call dutiesPrepares exam room and equipment following infection control and safety protocolsAssists with machine malfunctions by contacting service and notifying lead techsMaintains communication with physicians and nursing units regarding test resultsCommunicates with patients in a way they can understandFunctions as a team member to organize and prioritize daily responsibilitiesConsults with and keeps lead techs informed of activities and issuesMaintains hospital, departmental, and specialty area competenciesParticipates in and supports hospital policies and guest relations programsUnderstands Joint Commission regulations related to the labDemonstrates knowledge of echocardiography practice Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED is required
  • Graduate of a two (2) year Allied Health Training Program, Ultrasound Technology preferred
  • New Mexico State Licensure under the New Mexico Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Program (NMRTT) required (New graduates must obtain within 90 days)
  • Current BLS required.
  • ARDMS/RDCS credential with one of the following specialties: AE, FE, PE;
or
