Our client is seeking a Project Manager to lead a high-visibility project updating government tax systems in response to major policy changes. This contract role offers the opportunity to manage both urgent system updates and the roadmap for replacing a 30-year-old legacy platform.In this role, you will:
- Lead a multi-stakeholder project team including developers, analysts, business leaders, and external vendors.
- Deliver system updates to support new tax thresholds, deductions, and processing requirements by January 2026.
- Coordinate system changes across a legacy SQL/PowerBuilder system, external filing/payment integrations, and related applications.
- Manage scope, schedule, risks, and budget.
- Drive collaboration between technical and business stakeholders, ensuring alignment and timely execution.
- Work with developers on code pushes, reviews, and system testing (not hands-on coding).
- Provide clear reporting and executive-level updates to sponsors and leadership.
- Develop a long-term roadmap for retiring and replacing the legacy system in early 2026.
Must Have:
- Proven success managing large, complex IT projects using PMI/PMBOK methodology.
- Strong ability to coordinate delivery across teams and vendors without direct authority.
- Experience working within government, municipal, or public sector environments.
- Background in technical project management - able to work closely with dev teams on deployments and code reviews.
- Strong communication skills to manage external vendors, internal stakeholders, and executive sponsors.
- preferred.
- Knowledge of tax/treasury processes is a plus, but not required.
- Experience leading projects with policy-driven system changes is highly preferred
Length of Assignment: 9 months, possibility of extension
Compensation Range: up to $85 per hour pay rate
