- Perform patient phlebotomy services including inpatient ward rounds, outpatient draws, Emergency Department (ED), STAT, and timed collections.
- Collect blood specimens through venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques.
- Properly identify patients and verify test orders prior to specimen collection.
- Label specimens accurately and maintain proper chain of custody.
- Process and prepare specimens for testing or send-out.
- Transport specimens to appropriate laboratory sections.
- Maintain supply inventory for blood collection materials.
- Document all collection activities in the Laboratory Information System.
- Follow standard precautions and infection control procedures.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients and healthcare team members.
- Establishes and maintains effective interpersonal skills and good customer relations with patients, families, and all other medical center personnel.
- Provides general clerical and administrative support.
- Orders, stocks, and maintains specialized supplies used in the drawing.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of recent phlebotomy experience in a clinical setting.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy training program.
- Current Phlebotomy certification.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory procedures.
- Experience with computerized laboratory information systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to pass a federal background check; US Citizenship required.
- Sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift.
- Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist.
- Lift up to 20 lbs.
- Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
- Push/pull with 30 lbs of force.
- Manual dexterity for performing blood draws.
- Visual acuity for specimen labeling and patient identification.
