Kiernan Center Summer Camp Operational StaffJob Summary:Under general supervision, the KC summer camp front desk administrative assistant/substitute counselor/lifeguard is responsible for opening the Kiernan Center and Kiernan Center Summer Youth Camp (NUSYC), handling all cash transactions, providing customer service to NUSYC patrons, life guarding for camp at designated times and substituting for camp counselors when necessary.Essential Duties:
  • Opening facility and preparing camp for daily operations
  • Collecting and recording all cash transactions
  • Notifying parents/guardians of bills due for campers
  • Assisting Camp director with registration process
  • Assisting with various camp activities
  • Provide lifeguard supervision at designated times
  • May need to act as camp counselor if a substitute counselor is needed
General Description:% of Time85% Handling front desk operations; 10% Lifeguarding5% Supervising campers during morning/daily activities.Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Ability to read and comprehend the English language sufficiently to be able to read and understand various forms, documentation, files and information in the department;
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills;
  • Sufficient manual dexterity with proficiency to handle various office machines including but not limited to: calculator, copy machine, computer, and typewriter;
  • Ability to receive telephone calls, respond to inquiries and communicate with others by telephone with or without reasonable accommodations;
  • Experience with and knowledge of youth programs in a summer camp setting;
  • Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to be able to verify accuracy of record keeping and athletics information;
  • Basic knowledge and ability to implement rules to basic recreation activities and games
Ergonomic Requirements:The functions of the position is usually performed standing, but may require some amount of time sitting. Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, lifting, walking, running, carrying and other movements may be required. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others, or to otherwise demonstrate or explain how they can perform the essential functions listed above.Qualification Standards:
  • Front Desk Operator must be at least 17 years of
  • Life guard, first aid and CPR certification
  • College degree is recommended but not
  • Character references are required
