Electric Power Systems (EPS) is a leading provider of high-voltage, high-power energy storage solutions for electric aviation, aerospace, and defense applications. Our Power, Distributions, & Protections (PDP) team is at the forefront of designing cutting-edge power distribution systems for electric aircraft. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to support our innovative projects and contribute to the development of next-generation aviation technology.Key Responsibilities:The PDP Mechanical Engineering Intern will assist in the design of power distribution systems for electric aircraft, working on the design and modeling of components while performing strength and thermal analyses to ensure reliability and performance. This role involves running tests to validate designs, analyzing test data, and contributing to the development of high-voltage harnesses and cable assemblies. Additionally, the intern will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to integrate mechanical and electrical components to meet system requirements.Preferred Qualifications:The ideal candidate is currently in their junior or senior year of college pursuing a Bachelor's degree, or is working towards a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. They should have experience performing static stress finite element analysis (FEA) using SolidWorks Simulation or ANSYS, as well as working with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools such as SolidWorks Flow Simulation. A strong understanding of mechanical drawing creation, tolerance stack-ups, and GD&T per ASME Y14.5 is preferred. Candidates should also have experience designing for various manufacturing methods, including CNC machining, plastic injection molding, sheet metal, weldments, castings, thermoforming, and material finishes.A deep knowledge of mechanical properties of common materials, including metals, plastics, and composites, is essential. Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) and design to cost principles is highly valued. An understanding of fundamental electrical engineering principles and battery technology will be beneficial. The ability to work hands-on with technicians, meet project milestones and deadlines, and contribute to aerospace battery design, new product engineering, and technology development is critical. Additional experience in packaging battery cells and working with EV, HEV, and PHEV vehicles, as well as designing for automotive, military, and aerospace applications, will be an advantage. Strong communication and presentation skills, along with the ability to maintain positive customer relations, are also important qualities for success in this role.ITAR Requirement:Due to U.S. Government regulations, this position is only open to U.S. persons as defined by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident (green card holder), or otherwise eligible to work in the United States under ITAR requirements. Why Join Us?At EPS, you will gain hands-on experience in an exciting and rapidly growing industry while working alongside experienced engineers developing real-world solutions. Our internship program provides opportunities for professional growth, networking, and the chance to contribute to groundbreaking projects.Job Posted by ApplicantPro
