- Collaborate with the SVP, Director of Commercial Banking to improve strategies for loan and deposit growth, consistent with the bank's strategic plan, and be recognized as the premier commercial bank in our trade area.
- Track/monitor scorecard data information to be shared with lenders. Identify areas for scorecard improvement (other metrics, transparency, etc.) that are consistent with the bank's strategic plan.
- Actively participate in Process Improvement (PI)) meetings to improve the customer and co-worker experience by seeking best practices while addressing departmental processes, efficiency and scalability.
- Maintain/update commercial lender onboarding and training materials so that our staff can be equipped to provide excellent customer service from loan initiation through payoff. Identify departmental skills and knowledge gaps that need addressed.
- Track/monitor educational (schools/conferences/online education, etc.) needs for each lender and facilitate appropriate training to address gaps.
- Collaborate with the SVP, Director of Commercial Banking to identify sales/marketing opportunities, "plus" existing events, and identify staff training opportunities.
- Develop pro-active succession plans for smooth and successful transition of respective lender's portfolios.
- Assist with the department budget process to help identify efficiency, fee income and cost-saving opportunities.
- Provide sales leadership during meetings, check-ins, joint calls, bank hosted/sponsored events, other department initiatives, and promote the bank's favorable image in community organizations, business groups, etc.
- Develop/implement lists and strategies to help identify new prospects and sales strategies for all lenders. Participate in a minimum of 2 prospect sales calls/year with each direct report.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with COI's, businesses and organizations to provide information regarding the lending programs with the bank.
- Encourage staff to provide referrals to various departments; Treasury Management, Home Mortgage, Retail, and Trust and Wealth Management.
- Serve as a member of the Senior Credit committee.
- Attend scheduled Asset Quality meetings between lenders and the credit department.
- Lead the "Specialty Lending Committee" (fka SBA committee) to identify and promote niche lending products/programs consistent to gain strategic market share and within the bank's risk appetite.
- Assist the Credit department in providing oversight/direction to maintain commercial loan asset quality.
- Serve as the relationship manager/lender for existing customers to maintain/grow current loan portfolio, and refer new customers to other lenders. Originate loans within bank policy to attain growth goals.
- Participate in the collection procedures and processes to assure the timely collection of all delinquent accounts and develop revised loan repayment terms or schedules as necessary.
- Adhere to individual lending authority and provide "one up" approval as per loan policy.
- Annually review and provide feedback to the bank's Commercial Loan Policy.
- Maintain a working knowledge of applicable compliance regulations.
- Collaborate with Treasury Management (TM) staff to help lenders participate in growing deposit accounts and cross-selling TM services.
- Provide assistance to co-workers with difficult internal problems or customer inquiries or problems. Ensure prompt and courteous response to customer inquiries.
- Assist customers with inquiries and information requests. Resolve complaints relating to loan products and services.
- Promote commercial fee-based services to customers and prospects.
- Provide supervision and coaching with each direct report. Work with each team member to complete 90-day plans, monitor and communicate scorecard results and conduct regular check-ins to assist with activities.
- Work with SVP, Director of Commercial Banking, to establish goals for each team member and for the department.
- Complete annual performance reviews with all direct reports.
- Participate in at least 2 community organizations through membership and regular attendance, networking with group members to develop connections and personal relationships.
- Provide leadership in at least 1 community organization.
- Perform other duties as assigned.'
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in the field of business, including specific courses in accounting, finance, and economics; or a minimum of 15 years banking experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver's license.
- Must have working knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing, and database software programs.
- Must sign a non-compete.
