- Perform structural bridge design and load rating for a variety of structures including prestressed concrete and steel girder bridges, retaining walls, and sign support structures, using current standards. Provide technical support during construction and field activities such as site assessments, inspections, and data collection to ensure design intent is carried through to implementation.
- Coordinate and manage the planning and execution of design tasks across technical disciplines. Ensure project delivery within scope, budget, and schedule, while maintaining proactive communication with clients, subconsultants, and internal teams.
- Prepare and review design calculations, plans, estimates, and reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with the firm’s Quality Management Plan. Perform or oversee quality control and quality assurance on deliverables.
- Support proposal development, participate in client meetings, and contribute to marketing efforts. May lead technical presentations, negotiate scope or schedule changes, and maintain strong client relationships.
- Mentor and support the development of junior engineers through knowledge sharing, technical guidance, and regular collaboration. Stay current on industry standards, emerging technologies, and design practices through continuing education, professional society participation, and a demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement in engineering excellence and leadership.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering is required
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
- Minimum of 8 years' professional experience in structural design and/or project management for transportation-focused projects.
- Familiarity in Midwest DOT standards and/or Class I railroad bridge requirements.
- Strong command of structural engineering principles and industry standards for bridge and structural design. Experience with steel and prestressed concrete bridge systems is essential.
- Proficient in MicroStation (including ORD/OBM), and structural analysis/design tools. Comfortable using Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and collaboration.
- Physically capable of performing field work, including inspections and data collection in various environments.
- Holds a valid driver’s license and adheres to safety protocols.
- Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills. Thrives in a team-oriented environment and actively engages with peers to share knowledge and foster collaboration.
- Proven ability to plan, coordinate, and deliver projects efficiently, with a strong understanding of the impacts of technical decisions on schedule, budget, and scope.
- Master’s Degree with a civil/structural focus is strongly preferred.
- Strong relationships and experience working with Midwest DOT’s and/or Class I railroads.
- Experience with the design/build project delivery method
- Experience with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Specifications and/or AREMA.
- Experience with bridge design software such as CSi Bridge, LARSA, LEAP Bridge, AASHTOWare BrR and BrD, and FB Multipier.
- NHI 2-Week course – Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridge.
