- Provide Global technical oversight for packaging materials as it relates to primary and secondary packaging including the following:
- Actively provide package engineering support to capital projects delivery involving packaging equipment and/or facilities, as needed, including due diligence reviews.
- Specification development, engineering studies, qualification/validation testing and support.
- Printed packaging materials plan ownership/management.
- Supporting product launches – provide technical leadership for the launch of new products. This includes accountability for materials selection, design, technical transfer, and packaging process consulting to the Project Team.
- Field Study packaging support (as needed).
- Identification, evaluation, and assessment of new technologies for packaging equipment and printed materials.
- Development of packaging best practices and/or packaging functional standards that enable global replication of processes, equipment, and systems.
- Continuous improvement initiatives.
- Knowledge Sharing – Provide ongoing technical support to packaging site engineering groups globally.
- Global Technical Support - Provide packaging technical support to all Lilly packaging operations with respect to materials, equipment and processes.
- Assist packaging sites globally with technical evaluation, technology assessments, technical transfers, and specific problem resolution including troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Assist in technical assessments of packaging operations and packaging material suppliers.
- Project Management – Provide Project Management to Global projects involving packaging decisions, standardization, changes or improvement opportunities when needed.
- Ensure schedules adhere to critical milestones and deadlines.
- Technical problem solving for issues that arise and troubleshoot appropriately.
- Engaging across Networks for best practices and standardization.
- Create requests for capital when needed and manage the capital project.
- Mentorship – Provide ongoing support and mentorship to campus hires in the organization for coaching in building technical skills and guidance with career aspirations.
- Bachelor's degree in Package Engineering, Engineering, or another STEM-related field.
- 3 - 5 years of experience at front-line pharmaceutical packaging sites, preferably as Packaging Engineer.
- Experience with printed packaging development, packaging specifications, asset delivery/Commissioning & Qualification processes, product/package stability, and packaging components.
- Experience with vendor management, including selection & qualification.
- Experience with project management tools and processes.
- Familiarity with technology advances in packaging.
- Familiarity with injectable medical devices packaging and/or dry product bottle packaging.
- Capable of managing and balancing multiple initiatives concurrently.
- Familiarity with conducting due diligence facility reviews.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Excellent self-management and organization skills.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Ability to drive change through influence.
- Domestic and likely some international travel required (10 – 25%).
- Will require occasional work in a manufacturing environment.
- Safety equipment and /or gowning may be required.
