LSG seeks a Vice President to lead operational excellence across our growing bipartisan public affairs practice. This role combines hands-on campaign operations management with team leadership, focusing on delivering exceptional client outcomes through centralized project oversight, streamlined processes, effective team coordination, and operational innovation. The ideal candidate will have 8-12 years of experience in political campaigns, advocacy organizations, or public affairs consulting, with a proven track record of managing complex operations, deploying issue campaigns across a multitude of industry priorities, and developing high-performing teams.This is a hybrid role based in our downtown DC office Monday-Thursday, with remote work available on Fridays. The position requires an average of 2-3 days of travel per month.Key ResponsibilitiesAccount Leadership
  • Design and implement operational frameworks for multi-state field campaigns and advocacy initiatives on federal, state, or local public policy issues
  • Oversee project management across several different concurrent client engagements, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery
  • Integrate multi-faceted public affairs programming – including in-district advocacy, earned media, local communications and reporter outreach, paid media, events and meetings, and other proven advocacy tactics and strategies.
  • Develop and maintain vendor relationships, including in-state field teams, event vendors, and technology providers
  • Create and manage operational budgets for client campaigns
  • Establish quality control processes and performance metrics for campaign operations
Client Management
  • Serve as primary client relationship manager and point of contact for assigned accounts
  • Develop strategic and operational plans that align with overall campaign objectives
  • Provide comprehensive support to client executives: develop trip agendas, travel with them, and staff appearances
  • Write and edit materials, including communications plans, media collateral, client correspondence and client reports
  • Identify opportunities for operational improvements and value-added services
  • Lead response to business development opportunities, including proposal writing, presentation building, and pitching
QualificationsExperience Requirements
  • 8-12 years in political campaigns, advocacy organizations, or public affairs consulting, including supporting federal or state policy or political initiatives
  • Success managing complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives (e.g., third-party organizations, elected officials, reporters, voters/consumers)
  • Track record of budget management and financial oversight ($500K+ annual responsibility)
  • Background representing bipartisan campaigns across a range of issues, adapting as needed to dynamic local/state/federal political environments
  • History of becoming an expert on technical policy matters to effectively lead client campaigns
Required Competencies
  • Expert-level capability to manage complex, multi-faceted campaigns from planning through execution, with understanding of advocacy campaign strategies and programming (e.g., in-district advocacy, earned media, paid media, events and meetings, DC/inside-the-Beltway fly-ins)
  • Proven ability to build, lead, and develop high-performing teams
  • Advanced experience planning large-scale events, meetings, conferences, and stakeholder engagement activities
  • Understanding of national, state, and local media – including traditional media (e.g., print, broadcast) as well as new, emerging media outlets (e.g., social, podcasts, right/left media, constituency-specific media)
  • Background managing external vendors and contractor relationships
  • Strong project management skills with capacity to handle multiple accounts and/or campaigns simultaneously
Skills
  • Exceptional writing skills – including producing, drafting, and editing strategic plans, reporting assets, and original content (e.g., op-eds, letters-to-the-editor, social media posts, advocacy content, media communications)
  • Proficiency with database management, CRM systems, and project management tools
  • Knowledge of digital organizing tools and social media management platforms
  • Familiarity with artificial intelligence (AI) tools applicable to public affairs campaigns and project management and deployment functions
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills for budget tracking and reporting
Personal Attributes
  • Active consumer of political media with deep understanding of current political landscape and issues across the political spectrum
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing deadlines
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Collaborative approach with ability to work across teams and service offerings
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in both campaign and corporate/association advocacy environments
  • Knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and lobbying dynamics
  • Experience with procurement processes and RFP responses
