
Sr. Opto-Mechanical Engineer

- Design and Development:
- Design opto-mechanical parts and assemblies for use in TDLAS gas analyzers and sample conditioning systems.
- Create robust, manufacturable designs that balance performance, cost, and assembly complexity.
- Lead mechanical design of subsystems with attention to alignment, thermal stability, and ease of integration.
- Select materials and processes suited to harsh industrial environments, including stainless steel and aluminum alloys.
- Perform mechanical stack-up and tolerance analysis to ensure performance under worst-case conditions.
- Use simulation tools (thermal, structural, optical) to inform design decisions.
- Build, assemble, and test prototypes to evaluate form, fit, function, and integration.
- Own system-level integration of optical, mechanical, and electronic components, including commercial parts.
- Technical Drawings and Documentation
- Generate and maintain accurate fabrication and assembly drawings, BoMs, inspection documents, and work instructions.
- Apply GD&T to support both design intent and manufacturing inspection.
- Own engineering documentation processes including change orders and release packages.
- Project Collaboration and Support
- Work closely with optical engineers, electrical engineers, and manufacturing teams to develop and refine complete systems.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and industrialization teams to transition designs into production.
- Troubleshoot issues in current and legacy products, particularly around mechanical performance, optical alignment, and thermal behavior.
- Provide input on manufacturability, serviceability, and cost during all phases of development.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in precision optical and mechanical instrumentation design.
- Expert-level proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks preferred); able to take design from concept to detailed drawing.
- Hands-on prototyping and system integration experience.
- Strong understanding of machining, sheet metal, and 3D printing processes.
- Solid grasp of GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Familiar with structural, thermal, and basic optical simulation tools (SolidWorks Simulation, Ansys, Zemax OpticStudio).
- Effective at documenting and communicating design intent clearly and consistently.
- Able to work independently and collaborate in cross-functional teams.
- Experience designing for and working with industrial lasers, optics, and detectors.
- Familiarity with electrical/electronic components at the system integration level.
- Experience working with ERP/PLM systems (Syteline, Agile) and PDM tools (SolidWorks PDM).
- Familiarity with hazardous area equipment design and certification.
- Experience using CMMs and interpreting metrology results.
