- Oversees operational, educational, and workforce management for the department.
- Ensures compliance with coding standards and maximizes reimbursement following National Correct Coding Initiative, CMS, state, and federal guidelines.
- Key responsibilities include data-driven decision-making, process improvement, and clinical relationship management.
- Partnering with physicians and stakeholders to enhance processes and technology, improving patient and provider experiences.
- Manages daily coding operations, education, monitoring, and HR functions, and collaborates closely with the Revenue Cycle Director and clinical stakeholders across the organization.
- Manages creation and updating of coding and Revenue Cycle policies and procedures.
- Participates in the Compliance Committee as a member and key stakeholder.
- Evaluates coding rejections, denials, and claims review processes with the billing team to ensure compliance, accurate reimbursement, and denial prevention.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required; 4 years’ equivalent professional experience accepted in lieu of degree.
- Must hold and maintain a Professional Coder certification through a nationally accredited institution, required. CPC through AAPC will be given preference.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ leadership experience in Professional Multi-specialty Coding required. A minimum of ten (10) years of experience is strongly preferred!
- Previous experience developing and implementing coding education and compliance programs required.
- Prior Electronic Medical Record (EMR) EPIC experience is required. Strong knowledge in EPIC, with experience specific to Professional Billing, is required.
- Expert knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding principles and guidelines.
