- Assisting in planning, directing, coordinating, and supervising the work of the Division of Laboratory Improvement and the Division of Operations and Quality Assurance.
- Serving with full authority as director in the bureau director's absence.
- Developing and implementing the strategic vision of the laboratory in conjunction with the director.
- Assisting in the development and implementation of the bureau's policies and procedures.
- Consulting and coordinating with other bureaus in the Department of Health, other state agencies, community laboratories, federal agencies, and other states.
- Keeping up to date on scientific advances, including new technology and testing, and applying knowledge to the laboratory.
- Maintaining knowledge of Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments, the Clinical Lab Act, and Chapter 5 regulations, including laboratory quality assurance practices.
- Maintaining an understanding of Commonwealth, departmental, and bureau administrative policies and procedures to assist in direction and support of the divisions.
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 2 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Exton. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

- You must meet the Qualifications of Director under 28 Pa. Code §5.21.88 subsection (a) and the Pennsylvania Clinical Laboratory Act at the time of hire.
- You must meet the Qualifications of Director under 28 Pa. Code §5.21.88 subsection (b) within eighteen months of hire.
