- Coordinate the manufacturing feasibility of new or existing products and recommend methods for manufacturing economies.
- Determine the most effective machining and assembly methods to ensure product finish, tolerance, and quality.
- Provide technical direction for initiating and maintaining production capability of assigned components.
- Direct the procurement of specialized tools, fixtures, and gauges by evaluating design concepts, initiating tool orders, and justifying expenditures.
- Establish processes, including programming of CNC machines, requesting and approving tooling and equipment, and originating operation instruction sheets to produce the product safely and economically.
- Provide manufacturing support documentation necessary for each operation.
- Maintain knowledge of current and emerging technology through professional societies, periodicals, and vendor contacts.
- Analyze the manufacturing impact of vendor evaluations and participate in vendor selection decisions.
- Understand and drive the implementation of all appropriate elements of the Lean System.
- Search for identifiable and measurable cost reductions through scrap analysis, technology applications, design modifications, and improved labor utilization. Prepare cost estimates and justifications as necessary.
- Recommend DMR disposition and rework procedures.
- Provide shop support for tooling, setup, and production requirements.
- Assist Supervisors in areas of responsibility in training new employees.
- Facilitate interdepartmental communication between Engineering, Production, Production Control, and others to accomplish assigned goals and objectives.
- Assist and support production supervisors in employee on-the-job training needs.
- Perform other related tasks and assignments as necessary.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
- 2+ years of manufacturing engineering experience with technical knowledge of CNC machining, tooling, tool design, and gaging for metal cutting applications.
- Proficiency in CAD software, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, etc.
- Strong experience in supporting and implementing lean manufacturing concepts and Six Sigma activities.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with others.
- Capability to optimize time management, prioritize tasks, and function in a highly organized manner.
- Technical writing ability and self-direction.
- Leadership skills in managing multi-functional teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering preferred.
- Knowledge of LEAN Manufacturing tools.
- Ability to drive several major projects at once while establishing and changing priorities as conditions dictate.
