Recruitment Type OpenPosition DetailsGeneral StatementThe Director of the Montana 10 program will lead the implementation and management of the Montana 10 program at MSU Bozeman. Reporting to the Senior Access Officer, this position is housed within the Division of Student Success, as part of the dynamic Access and Success team committed to advancing equitable student outcomes and enhancing student persistence and graduation.Montana 10 is a Montana University System initiative designed to improve college completion rates and eliminate equity gaps. The program provides comprehensive academic, financial, and social support delivered through proactive, intensive, and data-informed advising. It is grounded in the belief that students succeed when they have strong relationships with knowledgeable advisors, clear guidance on effective behaviors, and timely access to the right resources and incentives.The Director will play a critical role in fostering student success by overseeing program implementation, supervising staff, engaging with students, and collaborating with partners across the MSU campus and the broader university system. The successful candidate will pair high expectations with empathy and support to help students thrive. This work will be accomplished through participant orientations, coordinating one-on-one coaching appointments, engaging students in monthly activities, and other program support.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesProgram Management and Leadership
- Manage and oversee all aspects of the Montana 10 program, including program development, implementation, and day-to-day operations.
- Design and implement student engagement processes, including developing student contracts, tracking participation, and managing program assessment.
- Create and support case management models and success tracking systems for Montana 10 participants.
- Develop and implement student engagement opportunities that promote a sense of belonging, academic momentum, and personal development.
- Identify and implement best practices, workflows, and innovations to support student success outcomes.
- Oversee program evaluation, data collection, and reporting in collaboration with University Data & Analytics.
- Foster meaningful partnerships with MSU departments and services to ensure holistic student support, including Advising Commons, Financial Aid, Career Services, and Residence Life.
- Serve as the primary liaison to the Montana University System and peer institutions participating in Montana 10.
- In collaboration with University Communications, design and implement strategic communication and marketing plans to increase awareness and visibility of Montana 10 across campus.
- Oversee recruitment, hiring, supervision, and evaluation of Montana 10 staff, including administrative staff and student employees.
- In collaboration with Advising Commons, develop and implement training curriculum for staff and student employees, ensuring alignment with program goals and advising best practices, as appropriate.
- Lead the development of short- and long-term strategic plans that align with MSU and Montana University System goals for equity and student success.
- In collaboration with the Budget and Fiscal Manager for Student Success and Fiscal Shared Services, manage the Montana 10 budget, including planning, monitoring, and reporting expenditures and maintaining accurate financial records.
- Master's degree in education, higher education administration, counseling, or related field and a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, student affairs, academic affairs, or program management.
- Demonstrated leadership in program development, project implementation, and cross-departmental collaboration.
- Experience leading and supervising staff.
- Experience providing support programs for students from various backgrounds
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Experience managing externally funded or grant-supported initiatives.
- Establish and maintain strong cooperative working relationships with a variety of constituencies, including students, faculty, staff and community members to advance program goals through inclusive partnerships.
- Navigate complex stakeholder dynamics and systemic challenges by using adaptive approaches that foster innovation and shared ownership.
- Sound judgement and initiative in decision-making, while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
- Find creative solutions to challenges, adapt to changing circumstances, and maintain motivation and resilience during periods of adversity.
