They will deliver a suite of control towers that provide insights for internal and external supply chain and distribution oversight and deliver views ensuring multiple levels from operator to executives have the insights that matter to enable rapid decision making.This capability will support the supply of all Vertex medicines during clinical trials and in all commercial supply across all modalities, from small molecules cell and gene therapy medicines. This work is a critical part of our supply chain solutions to ensure that fast, effective and compliant supply of all clinical and commercial supply occurs with speed, efficiency and ensuring that no patient is left behind. This role is vital to our patient-facing commitment to ensuring no stock-outs or missed supplies, maximizing our manufacturing capacity internally and externally.This role ensures that software and data technology systems align with global regulatory requirements, global financial requirements and global quality requirements and ensures alignment with technology and operational models across all these domains. The Principal partners across global Clinical and Commercial supply chain, manufacturing operations, IT, quality and finance to enhance digital capabilities, drive automation, and improve operational efficiency in supply chain execution processes.Reporting LineThe Control Tower and Command Centre Solutions reports directly to the Director, Supply Chain Digitalization and Automation.Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesVision and Strategy
  • Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of control tower technology focused on supply chain to support the clinical and commercial supply of all Vertex medicines.
  • Couple mastery of the marketplace of commercial products with innovation to where creative solutions can drive Vertex’s needs forward, focused on speed to insight.
Operational Execution
  • Collaborate globally to improve compliance and operational efficiency in supply chain execution processes.
  • Monitor emerging technologies and regulatory trends to enhance system capabilities and maintain compliance with evolving global standards.
  • Provide technical leadership in intelligent control towers that integrate with Vertex’s data-first architecture and are scalable for future wider needs.
  • Provide technical leadership and support for troubleshooting system issues and optimizing system performance.
Leadership
  • Oversee the execution of projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and ensure successful project delivery.
  • Monitor and report on project performance using key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a supply chain or logistics discipline, computer science, IT or relevant equivalent; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in supply chain technology, ideally within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Expertise in lo-code, data and analytics software, RPA and agentic solutioning are a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and initiatives that require collaboration across multiple functional areas.
  • Experience in pharmaceuticals and life sciences is a plus.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Experience in successfully developing and implementing technology strategy, preferably within a complex organization.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and strategic thinking abilities, with a focus on driving innovation and operational excellence.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to produce strategic documents, present ideas and solutions to technical and non-technical audiences, and all levels of the organization.
  • A strong commitment to compliance and integrity in systems, processes, and actions, with a deep understanding of the biotech regulatory environment.
Co-Location Requirement:
  • This is a hybrid role based in Boston, Massachusetts. The Flex @ Vertex Policy requires 3 days a week onsite (of your choice).
Other Requirements
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% to support business objectives.
  • Experience with enabling advanced technologies, such as AI and machine learning, through data engineering strategies is highly desirable.
Pay Range: $140,700 - $211,000Disclosure Statement:The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements.
